Widest Wheel Without Fender Work
Hey guys,
I am wanting to get a set of Diamond Racing wide steel rims. But I would like to avoid fender work. What's the widest wheel you've seen run without fender work? I am planning a 1.6" front 1.8" rear drop. Thanks for the help! |

that will all depend on what offset you run and how much tire stretch you're willing to have. though not diamond racing wheels my BBS RM's are 8.5 in the rear and have an offset of ~+8. there is some poke but the car is really slammed(air ride) and it looks good, much like the euro stance. with the right offset and tire combo a 9-10" rear is possible, but might have a LOT of poke, so you'll want to be really low so it doesn't look like a clown car. my fronts are a 7.5" with a offset of ~+21, with a little cambering in we were able to tuck them nicely.
i run a 195/45/15 all around, rear has some stretch front doesn't really. a word of warning: when ordering from diamond racing follow their chart exactly, pay special attention to the part about brake caliper clerance. due to a miscalculation, my boyfriends wheels (his error), caused them to rub on the caliper and he needed a 5mm spacer to get them to clear all around. diamond racing measures their wheels in "backspacing" which is slightly different from offset, but when calling to order they will tell you what backspacing is equivalent to your desired offset. |

It also depends on if you want to run camber.
Camber shims in the rear for -3 or -5 degrees 2 sets of camber bolts in the front for I think its -3 or -4 degrees camber. You can do a mild roll on all 4 fenders for 25 a fender and still maintain factory fender appears your just giving your self 1/4 - 1/2" more clearance on the inside of the fender. The new wheels are 16x8+25 on the front with just a little camber (1 set of bolts) and we should be good to go. Rear......I know someone on here has 10" wide steelies with a HIGH offset in the rear. Gotta be pushing a +50 at least in the rear to make it work. Your best bet is going to be to find a shop that knows how to measure offset, width and clearance. Have them give you the measurements you need to order the wheels and you can have exactly the fit you want (widest you can) without having to modify your fenders like I did. |

Thanks mate, got the prices. Weight doesnt matter too much for me, I am sort of a relaxed driver, and I dont really like alloy rims ... well as long as the Diamond wheels are not way too heavier than stock Toyota steelies.

Well I looked at these wheels. They are 32-40lbs PER wheel from what I remember them telling me. The wider, the heavier. 15's will probably be lighter if your going that route but they are HEAVY and you will see a significant drop in gas mileage.

That is fantastic, thank you mate! Makes me want to do them even more.
I'm not sure how concerned I am about the weight. Although for 15" Pro Series they are nowhere near 32lbs per wheel. Not sure where you got that number, wildmongoose26. More like 15lbs per for the 15x7 Pro Series. Not trying to say you're wrong or anything, just thinking that seems awfully high. I'm going to give them a shout on Monday, after I figure out offset and all that. See if I can get some pricing, specs on weight, etc. |

I have 15x8 et0 diamond racing steelies on my scirocco. They Probsbly weigh about 18-20 lbs a wheel without tire. Not awful but a The 18x8 RPF1's on my R32 weigh 17.5 a wheel. A 15x7 rpf1 weighs like 13 a wheel.
I think mine were 550ish shipped I think. They said the wait time was 4 weeks, took 10 weels to get them. I actually forgot that I ordered them at one point. Pay attention to the ordering chart to make sure the ones you order clear your calipers. |
