My dealership wanted to charge $75 for a synthetic Mobil 1 oil change. So ya I just bought some Royal Purple and a Wix filter and changed it myself.

Our dealer has a 360 degree glass waiting room above the service area so every one who's waiting can watch the mechanic work on their car.
They charged me $60 for a Mobil1 plus filter change. |

way to expensive . Go to ADVANCE AUTO PARTS , BJs WHOLESALE ( Shell synthetic , $4.19 a qt. ) , WALLY WORLD , PEBOYS , AUTOZONE , or others for better price . Get oil yourself and have them do the oil change by substituting the regular oil with the synthetic you bought and still using their oil filter , a TOYO ( Denso ) I assume . I would think the total cost would be $40 or a bit more . If you do so , bring 4 quarts of the synthetic and tell them to pour 3 and a 1/2 quarts in for the fill . This will bring it to or a tad below/above the FULL line on the dipstick . Read dipstick before leaving the business to make sure oil was installed , we've had them not fill ( possibly 1/2 qt. oil ) or overfill ( 1 qt. or > ) the engine in past . Then , recheck oil when car has been sitting for 1 hour or more on a level surface . Last , look under the car for leaks on occasion ( loose oil filter ) . My better halfs ' brother had a well known oil change chain not tighten the filter on his TACOMA . Luckily we were around to notice the oil spewing from under the truck and had him come to house so I could tighten the filter and pour in 4 quarts of oil I had in garage . Quite messy as well . These are the reasons why I now do oil changes myself . Plus it's cheaper .

Actually found Walmart to be the cheapest in our area, beating Costco. I pick up an OEM filter and have it changed for $10 labor/disposal. Total cost is about $35 this way.

As far as cost since Toyota dealers are independantly owned they are permitted to chage whatever they want........ so the best advice is to ASK THEM.

Because it's better for the engine? I don't care how small the engine is; I want my engine to perform at its peak and last as long as possible, since I do not plan on getting rid of the Yaris until it dies. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Why run synthetic in any engine?
