LED light failure

I'm thinking about replacing my interior dome light with a bright white LED. There are some ridiculously cheap ones on ebay for around $2. I'm wondering, if this LED failed and shorted the circuit, would anything bad happen, and how hard would it be to repair?

One suggestion, stay away from eBay LEDs. They are garbage. They aren't bright and will die within a month at most.

v-leds.com has nice, quality LEDs for a decent price.

This is the type of LED dome light I installed about 3 years ago. It's easy to install (with plenty of room) and plenty bright.

I think it is the same exact one from the same vendor.

I tried various festoon LED bulbs and none were anywhere near bright enough no matter how many LEDs they had.
Don't waste your time and money on them.

So, just get a "slab" type LED with a festoon adaptor as pictured.

BTW.... nothing will happen if an LED fails any more that it it was a standard incandesant bulb.
Even if something was to cause a short circuit, that's what your fuses are for.

I've since changed some of these, but here are some old pics of my LEDs.

In these pics:

Dome light: HiLEDs festoon LED (first gen)
Map lights: HiLEDs 194's (first gen)
Front footwells: "white" LED strips from eBay (yeah, I don't call those white)
Rear feet lighting: white 194 LED wedges from eBay
Trunk: 3 6" strips from v-leds
Underhood: "white" LED strip from eBay
Puddlelights: StreetGlow (I think) LED pods from eBay.
