Strange Whistle Sound at Idle - Toyota Yaris Forums

Bought a 08 yaris base 1.5l last year.

My old belt was replaced like two months ago with a bando, and it worked fine. Last week I replaced the waterpump and coolant because the bearing was bad. I noticed the car had an intermittent whistle/whining sound for a while. I think I've only noticed it once while driving. Today it was driving me crazy and I looked anywhere where there was vacuum hoses, used soapy water, and nothing. I only really notice it on idle. The only possible thing I would think is the alternator bearing. What do you think?

I noticed between the head and the block, some burned oil. I hope it's not the head gasket

Um, soapy water is not how you find a VACUUM leak. That's how you find PRESSURE leaks. You need to use starter fluid, or propane. As you spray each connection listen for the RPMs to rise. You can use a propane torch too. Just open the gas and put the tip around each joint. Make sure you're outside.

You can use WD40. Propane doesn't sound safe if you have a spark some
where that is exposed. I know it's not likely but I have dealt with gas issues.
Also went to HVAC class and saw people without eyebrows.

Propane is an actual method used by mechanics.
