Unhappy Putting on dust cover boot ring on ball joint

Is there special tool to install dust boot cover ring on ball joint?

Did you rip the new boot by trying to use the for to get that ring on?

I would probably try two pairs of locking pliers to hold the ends while pulling them apart to get the clip into place. There is a special tool for spreading that type of clip, but it may not be something that you could get from a local autoparts store.

What Scott said. There are some special pliers. I've gotten them from sears before. Craftsman.

I hate using pickle forks on the ball joint it always garentees you will damage the boot. This is the actual tool and brand I keep in my tool box for this job

Its about 20 bucks at harbor freight or around 50 for the entire master kit.

No, that's old stock boot and new one still good. I tried to spread using two locking pliers but it doesn't spread enough to fit. Looks like i need special tool

Yep I used that to remove it after fork failed
