heat shield over manifold came loose, help?!?
2007 Yaris Sedan, the heat shield over the manifold in the engine area came loose and rattles on the exhaust, only like a cm or 2 free play but enough to rattle
The 2 bolts on top are fine and still solid but the bottom 2 bolts I see there, I can't figure it out, looks like they never held it down in the 1st place unless something else rusted off can anyone shed any light on this for me? thanks |

actually looks like 4 x 10mm bolts hold the shield down, is that correct?

oh great, looks like the bottom 2 bolts are completely rusted and the metal bracket is completely gone, only 2 upper bolts held it, wonder if its ok to remove the shield altogether?

If you have some copper house wireing, you can strip it down so it's bare copper and tie it to manifold with that. It's better to have the heat shield left on.

it is OK to remove the shield
but if you get stuck in traffic on a hot day you could get some serious heat damage in the floor. best to get the heat shield fixed, or mcgyver your own. |
