Cold Air Intake?

I've been reading about it all over the site. Of course I want to save MPG where I can, and my question is this...

Will adding a cold air intake increase my MPG...really?

Depends on your driving habits and the air to fuel mixture. Cooler air cleaner burn= less fuel consumption. Hot air = more fuel consumption

Normal driving, about 1/2 stop and go and 1/2 highway is what we do. I would get one put on the car if it would help. Can you use regular gas?

Yea regular gas. Also you can use synthetic oil and tranny fluid to increase mpg.

Brands, too many its what you can afford and the purpose of the install that is up to you

You will have a real small HP gain that you'll feel-- so if you push your car you can lose more gas than your accustomed to-- but if you drive moderate/normal you will see a significant mpg gain. An AEM intake on my first Yaris was my first performance mod- and strikingly enough it was bc I wanted better mpg mileage.

Well, I hate to pay for something like that if I am getting no real benefit. As far as the benefit I want, it would be MPG. Performance stuff doesn't interest me. It's a dollar thing.

You will see a small improvement if you keep your driving the same. I'd say do the fog light cover mod to let in even cooler air but I see your using fogs. Just make sure to leave your fender liner in and you won't have any hydro lock problems (unless you drive in 24" deep water).

I bought a used AEM a few years ago, although mostly for the sound and performance. Mileage was more affected by my foot, but once I settled down my MPG was pretty good. I need to clean my filter though, as my mileage has dropped, but holding where it is.

If your looking for MPG gains, some other add-ons that will help are the lightest wheel/tire combo, or Garm might have a engine bay aluminum under panel that reduces turbulence under the car. I've seen on some of the MPG forums people making complete under body panels, have yet to see it on a yaris. Don't see how you couldn't get it done with a sheet of aluminum.

one of the cai's supposedly is better for lower in the rev range, i am not sure which one though, aem or afe i think. If you do not change your driving habits more air should give you better gas mileage, but it is hard for people to not use that extra power.

Light weight and aerodynamics really should be first to consider before engine mods.

I don't know how extreme you want to get, but removing the rear seat, seat belts, etc will get rid of 100lbs and will help gas mileage. Losing weight on the car wherever you can is best first, then start experimenting with cai's and the like.

i recently put a fujita cold air on my sedan, and even with about 5 miles of really pushing the gas acceleration i broke 50 mpgs. I was so surprised. also if you're doing highway driving, it makes that experience so much better because the car will accelerate with ease at higher speeds, something i had trouble with before

i gained about 3 mpg and decent power

but gaining mpg through an intake will require you to not put your foot on the throttle. it's kinda hard with the new parts.

That's a very nice increase. Which intake did you install? Is that with the stock exhaust?
