I might get one, I'm that curious. Never owned a Mac before.

I'm curious too, but not to the point of preordering anything.
I saw these people stand online (after spending the night on the sidewalk) outside the Apple store to make sure they'd get the first iPhones out of the store, tsk, tsk, tsk ... I DNK about that. Actually, even Steve Wozniak stood on line, but IMO that had to be a PR thing... I'm sure I'll see them around soon enough in the hands of commuter around me |

Here's yet another reason why not to flock for an iPad:

It's like a big iPod touch you can see a little better and play with for endless hours. what's the problem? I know, I know, some of you hardcore geeks out there you know who you are are gonna say there are better devices out there, even a notebook is better, OK I know that, but if someone wants to buy himself / herself a new toy with the apple logo on it, what's wrong with that? free country |

Well he can if he wants to, you're right.
I'm just suggesting that he should reconsider. Or he can just deal with the Apple retail employees when trying to return it after he gets bored with it. Apple makes such better products that are actually worth the price, this however really doesn't. |

ahem... all that being said, Garm, you might think about the fact that the device doesn't multitask. That can be a problem if you want to stream music while reading an ebook, or do anything while doing something else...
For example, I usually do 2 or 3 things simultaneously at the very minimum at the computer (for instance right now, I'm getting emails pushed in while streaming an online radio, while posting on this board), and I got some other stuff running in the background. I can't imagine not being able to play my iTune library while reading an ebook or surfing the net in a coffee shop. That is IMO a strong weakness for the device. |

The iPad looks like an interesting product. I won't be getting it nor do i know anyone who will be. Every one of my friends(who own apple products) just say its a bigger iphone or iPod Touch. I agree with you when you say don't buy launch products, and I mean for any product myself. I don't see a place for this device anywhere in my life, especially since my phone is my mp3 and my laptop covers the rest, including an eReader, which would have to agree hurts after a while and I like the kindles screen a 1000 times more for that purpose. I do agree with anyone that says apple producs can be innovative, but for there price there just way more then I ever would need.

The non-multitasking to me is the only downside to this device.
And yeah, if I want to play with one and have the money for it, isn't that good for YOU guys? You get to see if I like it or not. I love being one of the first to try new technology. Are the same people posting in here going to say I shouldn't try new (and sometimes far more expensive than an iPad) things to push the technology limits on the Yaris? I don't lose sleep over this. I get to have my fun, my way... right?

Garm, I was wrong in my previous post: you CAN listen to your iTune library while doing something else on the iPad.
I was in the neighborhood so I thought I' d drop in and say hello to my buddies at Apple ;) and yeah, they confirmed iTunes works. The problem is trying to multitask with third party apps. Don't take my word for it, though. Always good to double and triple check these things |
