What Gen Is the 07

Okay I know that ther was a diffrent body style until recent in europe and such. But does that count as a gen for us Canadians. I just want to know if our cars ar considered Gen1 or Gen 2!

Thanks Rick.

Thanks for raising this question. I feel confused too.
Toyota does not seem (to me) to have officially announced that the Yaris is a direct descendant of the Echo. I believe if you ask a Toyota salesman in Canada about where has the Echo gone, he/she will say that it has been discontinued. Sure enough, he/she will then tell you that now there is a car called Yaris.......
The situation is different in Europe. The Echo equivalent in Europe has been called the Yaris for long. So, to the Europeans, the Yaris has simply been redesigned. They can call the new Yaris there the second generaton Yaris if they like.
I think many of us Canadians know that the Yaris is the de facto next generation Echo because the blood line is so obvious. It is either the first generation Yaris or the second generation Echo.
Sorry to be ambivalent but hope I have at least partially answered your question.

I think in Japan, it is so! Really interesting!
Would you call the Echo in Canada the first or second generation Vitz? I do not know. May be other members can join in to discuss or may be VitzBoy has the answer.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic. Model Year (MY) is almost always "next year". However, there will be a few months next year where the "2007 Yaris" is actually sold in 2007.

Tagging a new car in 2006 as MY07 is actually making the car 'younger' not 'older'. Which is probably one reason why they use that system.

Different countries, for whatever reason they have, may have their own system of model year denomination. In the case of Canada and North America, for marketing and promotional purposes the model year is +1 of the actual year of release. For example, your 2003 Echo, if sold in North America, would be a 2004 Echo and be referred as such throughout North America. There may be other reasons as well, like for pricing and valuation, but the point is it may not make sense to you but to them its does.

In generel, the new MY come out the September before.

However, with new car intro's, they tend to stretch that out a bit. Ford, saturn, Jag, And Toyota all have 2007 my cars for sale currently.

IMO, it is a Marketing thing to get more chances for sales. also this goes along with the "(model) year end" sales events.

Yes, must be a marketing thing. When one manufacturer does one thing, the others have to follow suit. Overdoing is not good though.
