Anyone taken off the intake resonantor tube?

Just wondering if anyone's done that? Has a nice little growl to it when under throttle :)

I'll bet there are a few people here who have done that...

When I ran my air box, I put a little velocity stack on it just for some bling...

One guy even flipped the whole box upside down and trimmed off the bottom so that the filter was completely open and facing up.

I have a scangaugeII and I drove the car to get a baseline reading for the intake temp... it stayed around 70 degrees. Then i pulled over and removed that piece and drove again the same route and the intake temp rose to about 90 degrees. The sound was awesome without it but its sucking in much hotter air since the inlet is right behind the radiator.

Would you guess you'd get better mileage as a result of the warmer air temp?

mine has been off for a long time...during the winter i hook up a duct to the airbox that draws air from right off the exhaust manifold (well, its a header now) for better mileage

the only real restriction in the stock intake is the carbon filter...which i promptly removed a few days after i bought the car

It's in the "lid" of the air box, IIRC.

What does that thing do? Is that the one that's in the white "netting"?

It's a required item, part of the emissions control as well as "safety". As far as I know, it's illegal in most (if not all) states to tamper with it. That said, "any" restriction of the airflow will decrease engine output. =)

Its there to neutralize the vapors that emit back out of the combustion chamber after the motor is turned off.
