Yaris T Sport concept debuting at Geneva
Four world and European premieres at Geneva
Innovation and design set the tone for new Toyota models. Just a few weeks after the European launch of the new Toyota Yaris range, Toyota will unveil a high performance concept of its best selling model at the Geneva motor show. The T Sport is powered by a 1.8-litre engine, the biggest ever to be installed on this model. New bumpers, radiator grille, alloy wheels and modified suspension convey a more aggressive look, adding to the essence of this sports concept. |

I'm psyched to see a 1.8L engine! Gonna be interesting to see what the production version ends up looking like.

Sorry all, looks like I was crossed up. The image I posted originally is not the Yaris T-sport, but the Toyota Urban Cruiser Concept. I'll post pics of the Yaris T-sport as soon as they're released. Hopefully the T-sport is just a more aggressive looking Yaris, with the 1.8L engine.

From the australian article it seems the T-sport will have about 134 hp. Not bad.

I always prefer a less aggressive look. The look of the regular Yaris is fine. It's good to be a wolf under a sheep's skin like the AMG or the M Series cars, you know .

LOL, like you can be a sleeper in a Benz or BMW.
Now a Toyota on the other hand is perfect for the sleeper role. |

If we could just convince the mainstream North American media, and the general public for that matter that a $30,000 (26,000 USD) sub-compact Yaris is worth the scratch over a Corolla, or a Camry, then we might actually get the 1.8 verison...

If the 1.8 engine is the one currently used in the Corolla, which allegedly enjoys more or less the same fuel economy of the Yaris, then I will be looking forward to seeing it put into the Yaris. I reckon that with the lighter weight of the Yaris, this will result in a better than Corolla weight to horse power ratio, thus enhancing performance and fuel economy to a level beyond that of the Corolla and the current Yaris. In other words, a Yaris with that engine can be both more lively and more fuel economical than the Corolla and the current 1.5 Yaris. Oh! Let it come with leather interior, traction/stability control and a 5 or more speed manual or automatic transmission or even the CVT! BY all reckoning, such a car should not be more expensive than a similarly equipped Corolla. My imagination flies.
Be nice, don't wake me up! Last edited by swng; 02-09-2006 at 12:03 AM. |

I agree that the Yaris 1.8 won't be anywhere near $30k. It'll prolly be $14 or $15 k US at most.
And that is a good point as well, if they pull the gearing and engine straight from the manual Corolla gas mileage could actually go up. |
