Painting the LB hatch handle....
Has anyone done this? My LB is white and the dag on hatch popper\handle sticks out like a sore thumb. I was wondering if anyone has color matched the black plastic to their exterior color. I think it would really clean the rear up.

Matching color would look a bit gaudy in my opinion...
I'd much rather see that handle shaved and having some kind of electronic release instead. That would be ultra-sexy

I agree.. just one of those things you just gotta deal with. Unless there were a carbon fiber handle, now that would be nice.

You serious? It would be one hell of a project, but the result would be amazing. I've been thinking a bit about it, you could mount a stealth button behind the toyota badge, so you press in the lower "hole" of the logo to open the hatch
Problem is, without that part, there isn't really a place you can get a grip to lift the hatch... motorize it?

Hell Yeah I'm serious... I want to have a Star Wars Maural air brushed on the Back part... and that Dumb ass thing is in the way... If I do a "Shaven" door handle, then I can have the whole area to paint!
Too cool! |

I would def love to shave it. I mean who doesnt like it shaved :) but like you said that is a pretty big undertaking. Seems to me it could be easily done as one shaves the front door handles. Place a solenoid on the hatch lock mechanism to pop the latch then use a door popper to pop it out just a tad. Enough to get your fingers underneath the hatch. OR.......you could always replace the liftgate hydraulic swingarm with a linear actuator......then it would look very Stars Wars when opened. Only thing left to do would be to wire it all into the trunk pop auxilary port on a car alarm.
Everything you need here... Bear Claw latch kit and a door popper. Bear claw latch will replace the factory latch and the door popper will allow you enough room to get ur fingers under the trunk lid. Last edited by jdubau55; 02-21-2007 at 06:28 PM. |

I do not have power door locks or power windows...and I don't want them!
You know that pop thing we have for our gas tanks... I want one of them for my hatch too! That's it! Nothing fancy... I would have baught a Lexus for all that fancy crap! |
