WIX Filter - Quality?
Hey guys.. Anyone here purchased a WIX engine and cabin air filter for their Yaris?.. How did you find the quality and fit?
thanks |

My current cabin filter is WIX. I use to have Bosch. WIX fits better than the Bosch. As for the oil filter, I haven't used them yet but you can read many positive response in BITOG.

Anything made by Wix is very high quality... NAPA Filters are made by Wix also.

I like their oil filters better than their air filters. Their cabin air filters seem a little bit restrictive.

WIX makes good products and are a base for several other well known brands. I've used their oil filters and for the price offer long life when used with synthetic oils.

I'm currently running the NAPA Gold (which are apparently reboxed Wix, I don't know enough about these things to be sure) cabin and engine air filters.
The samples I have are made in South Korea. Price wise, the NAPA Golds were a tad higher than OE (not sure if this is true across Canada). I can't do a scientific filtering quality test, but both filters are more heavily built vs. the OE Densos. Fit is perfect. At this pt, I don't have reason to doubt their quality. |

Check out Federated made by hastings/baldwin (clarecor), Under 3 bucks and top construction. More filter media space in the fed/hastings due to the bypass welded onto the bottom of the core tube. Wix is great, but there aint much room for the filter after the giant wix bypass is located under the base plate.

Use both the oil and air filter from Wix. Love them. I might be as bold to say that the "new car" smell is still lingering.....mmmmmmhhhh.......

Thier cabin air filters have that special technology that prevents any type of bacterial growth. So no more funky smell in the winter times when you turn on the blower motor.

.....so wix is pretty good? how about purolator? my local advance auto parts has them(along with fram-which i hear aren't that good, mobil 1-pricey, and k&n-very pricey). i plan on buying some pennzoil platinum this week for an oil change and wonder if it's ok to buy a cheaper oil filter like purolator(sp?) instead of the pricey ones?

Purolator is a good filter, as well as many others including WIX/NAPA.
I have been buying Toyota filters in a 10-pack for the Yaris(change oil every 5,000 miles with non-synthetic). I would have no issue buying Purolator or Wix, and many others, but definitely not Fram. Mike |

I want to know why Honda, Acura and Subaru are using Fram (Honeywell) to make their Service part replacement filters? I just got a filter from subaru and its made by fram! maybe the custom ones made for them are better?

You could try Nippon or Beck/Arnley. I was on a Honda forum not long ago and Nippon tested best, so I'd imagine that they're pretty good across their entire P/N line.

Subaru has this crazy 23psi bypass valve rating that wix doesnt meet, I was gonna use the 51356 instead of the -65 since its much longer than the tiny lawn tractor filters they usually use. I have a rod knock on the subaru (bad luck!) so I'm sticking with OEM service replacement parts until I get this resolved. Right now they dont "hear' anything unusuall. I may have rod knock confirmed by an independant shop to push them into fixing it. Thanks 1st, I'll check into the Nippon

I haven't had to put any filters on my new Yaris, but I've used both Wix and Purolator filters for many years with complete satisfaction. I'd put a new Wix air filter in my daughter's Echo not long before trading it, in fact. It fitted perfectly.

Unless they fixed it in the past couple months, the purolator didnt fit correctly on my 08 yaris 3 dr. It only engaged 2 threads fully tightened and thats not enough. IMO the base plate is too far below the gasket surface. Youll see on the oem the baseplate is bumped UP towards the gasket surface instead of concave. I like purolator but this just didnt fit.
