'Recalled vehicles are equipped with side curtain-shield-airbags which deploy from the roof in some crashes.

Due to improper programming of the airbag control modules, it is possible under certain conditions for the airbags and seat belt pretensioners to activate shortly after startup when it is not necessary. The company says that unexpected activation of the airbags could injure occupants.

Affected vehicles include 2003 to 2006 Land Cruisers, 2004 to 2006 4Runners, 2005 to 2006 Tundras and Sequoias and 2003 to 2006 Lexus LX and GX 470s.'

Mazda has it worse. It is recalling ALL CX-5's sold so far in the USA since its introduction, because of a serious part defect that can cause them to burst into flames when rear-ended, etc. So far Mazda hasn't figured out an easy fix for the problem, but are supposed to provide rental cars for people who don't want to drive their CX-5 in the meantime. Sounds expensive, considering U.S. CX-5 sales alone is approx 265,000 units.

I wonder if this is the quality that we can expect from the upcoming Mazda-built Yaris in 2017...

That's why we both raced to the finish the line to get our Toyota made Yaris vehicles. Mazda is okay. Not nearly as reliable as Toyota. Hell, even Honda isn't.
