999,435 Miles On My 09 Yaris! The Big M Any Day Now!
Nope, Im lying!
Only 40k miles after ~6 years. After driving it around the lower 48 in 2010 (8k miles) and to AK and back in 2011 (10,200 miles) Im currently doing about 3k miles a year. So I will never see 1,000,000 miles! Not only that, all the mileage is coming 6 miles every time I start and shut down the engine. (over 6000 starts so far...) I think a lot of the reason people are getting 500,000 miles out of their Yari is theyre driving like 250 miles every time they start it. Im putting max stress on my car! Im 59 this year...assuming I make it to 75, will the car last me that long? Id like it to and theres no other car anything like the Yaris. (except the Fit...but only four door ones I need two to get in and out) Even the new Yari are made in FRANCE. So how many miles (and how many years?) will my 09 last me?

My 07 is just over 126,000 miles. Gone through 2 batteries and one serpentine belt. I love this car.

Hmmm good to hear you got 300k and still made lots of short trips! If I get 150k that'll do it!
My 79 240D was sold in 2000 to buy my ECHO and that was 21 years old and while it needed a little work almosy eveery year it was no big deal. Bought it for $4000 sold it for $2500. It ran great!

Damn, what a change. They were probably the same in speed, but going from a Benz to an Echo? Shudder. |

Owning a MB is a social shot across the bow of many people. My wife was at a family reunion with her back to a group or women and heard this conversation: "I heard the Kneisl's got a Mercedes Benz. It was $4000." "That was just the down payment, dearie." When I brought it home my neighbor came over to look it at. The next day he went out and bought a Lincoln Town Car. As much as I loved the 204D I liked the ECHO just as much...

Ha! I know. Even owning an old (well, 8 years at the time, so no older than my Yaris now. damn.) E21 BMW 3 series pissed so many people off. Wasn't fast, topped out at 100 mph, wasn't very luxurious (but damn if it didn't have power mirrors) but it sure was fun.

You are able to look at it differently, as you could do much of your own repair work if necessary/in a pinch. For those of us who don't know how to do any or many repairs of consequence, I think it would be pretty hard to beat an ECHO or Yaris re overall cost per mile. |

Hey around what mileage did you change your serpentine belt? My 2012 currently has 33,800 miles and for the last year or so the belt would squeak slightly for a micro second when the engine was started and was cold. I recently adjusted it and the squeak is gone but not sure if I may have over-tighten the belt.

Did your neighbor think you were being unpatriotic re buying a German car ? My grandfather thought buying a foriegn car was unpatriotic. He drove only Lincolns and Cadillacs. :[/QUOTE] No not at all. Havnt seen that kind of opinion since I read "How To Keep Your VW AliveFor The Compleat Idiot" in the 60s and my father saw it. He was strictly a Chevy man and couldnt understand anyone not buying American. HE hated foreign cars! I overheard a conversation between him and mom about my love for VWs. They wondered if they were raiseing a degenerate! But (after gas prices went up in 73) walking home from college spring break I saw a VW in our driveway. "WHo do we know who drives a VW" I wondered. "And how would they DARE to park it in my fathers driveway!" It turned out it had a blown engine and he bought it for $300 for me to fix! ThanksDad!
