Megan Racing Springs
In our world which seems to be dominated by TRD, Tanabe and Tein, here is an option not much heard about.
Given that not many people are running them, when they became locally available late last year, I was hesitant to buy them. Price was too good to pass up, so WTH, I decided to get them. As they are 'new to me', I have no idea what the spring rates are, or any of the other technical specs that go along with springs. All I do know is that the drop is 1.5 inches front and rear. This seems to be one of the few springs which fills the void between TRD/NFs and DFs/Tein. I wanted more than 1.25, and less than 1.8 without going to coilovers. With them only being on for less than 2 days now, I've not had much opportunity to really push them. I can say that I'm now definitely stiff, but not bone jarring. Discovered this morning that I don't need to plan routes which avoid railway crossings. From what I've felt so far, I think I will be very happy with my setup which consists of; 16" wheels, 195/50 tires, TRD rear sway, Megan Springs. Makes, what is for me, some very satisfying, well above average spirited daily driving.

Looks great! How much did you pick them up for? Other than being stiff, how's the handling with both the lowering springs and a sway bar, bigger difference than the sway bar alone?

Recommended 16" wheel/tire configuration with Megan Springs
I've been running DF210s for three years now with 205/40/ZR17 rubber. Handling is great but the ride on city roads is getting rough. Also don't like the lower rear drop.
I've ordered some Megan springs and intend on adding a TRD rear sway bar. I want to go with a lightweight 15"or 16" wheel, preferably in a Buddy Club replica P1 or Kosei K1 style. I'd also like to lower the offset to something like a 38 or so to get closer to a flush fit. Does anyone running Megan springs have any observations/suggestions regarding wheel/tire size combinations that fill the gap nicely but don't rub? I Photos would be great! Thanks. My specs in post#1. What is not mentioned are the 10mm wheel spacers I'm running in the rear. Offset of my wheels is +42, essentially giving me an effective offset of +32. I did have to add camber shims to the rear hubs to eliminate rub encountered on deep dips. This rub occurred on the right side, due to the fact that the right wheel on our cars sits ~3mm more outboard than the left.

I really like the look of the XXR 513 in a 15X7 - understated, old school and the lip is nice.
My concern is the +15 offset with the 1.5 inch F/R drop. Has anyone used a wheel with this type of offset and that drop? Would I need to roll the fenders to pull this off? Cheers. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/ima...ilies/iono.gif |
