I used to, but that was a while ago with the truck I used to have (someone ran a red light and totaled it). I had 2 Alpine SWR-1222D's running 800 watts rms shared, 3.8 cu/ft ported to 33 hz. That stuff was great, you couldn't swallow or breathe right :D They're going in the Yaris when I get it, but I don't know if I'm going as aggressive.

How much you willing to change?? For a simple change you can have the box with the subs pointing up. IN MY CASE that's what I did and if you wanna know the truth it got noticably louder. Doing this got me less rattles and guess what, it takes 'power' to make rattles and that 'power' is usable spl so....less rattles=higher spl. If you wanna go a little further you can build a totally new box for them. Subs facing up, ports facing the back (traditional crx style box) of the hatch and you can tune the ports to (if you're running a 62hz tone) around 60 hz so you'll get optimal output at that range. If you REALLY wanna go all out you can buy new equipment but hey, that's only if you got a couple grand just sitting around lol

I use to compete at Rockford and Kicker events and Mecca. I had a Kicker DX-700 and a 10 inch Kicker Solobaric in a custom oversized box and i hit in the 140-146 db range all the time. The old school Bass Mechanic cd wit Alma Gates PPI Blazer on the cover is the best spl cd ever made. Go through the cycles and see what hits the hardest. Mine was like from the 40-50 cycle range. Sweeps didnt really do much for me except post low numbers.

well....i have a new box.....the old box was tuned in 50hz....but my car hit the most on 60....so we made a new box tuned to 60 to match the car freq...
Tomorrow we're going to test it.....but we are guessing something like 146db...with 600rms only... Sweeps aren't that great cause at the point you get your freq. the battery could be low in charge.... We were using a tone cd, just pure power on the freq we need...hehehe :) |

Yeah, using Termlab....I know that the RTA usually tend to mark more...something like 2db....
Termlab is the most accuratte measuring system right now i guess |

You just have to play around with it and see what sounds best. I have been told before for SPL to turn it facing the hatch before and turning it up or sticking it in a corner and have it firing toward the other. Some cars are different then others when it comes to SPL and what your driving. Just move it around and see what sounds best.

For about 99.9% of hatchback setups including SUV's(unless they're walled off) you get most SPL from, and I'll say it again; subs facing up, ports facing the back. I don't know why, but that's how it works. And yeah, do the measuring on the Termlab. The AudioControl 190 is approx 4-5 db too high for true readings and I dont' know if I'd trust them. A lot of store sponsored events adjust the sensitivity of the AC meter (which I don't think can be done with the TL) so THEIR cars will meter higher than other cars. If I was going to do an event it'd have to be put on by an actual organization.

Well, my car is ready for SPL this weekend :)
Last time, i won first place on stock 1.... 141.9db using termlab on a really hot day.... Yesterday we tested some new boxes....and i got 143.3db constantly....2 10" basses facing backwords, and the port pointing to the left of the car... in a shared box.... i know i can handle more...but with stock battery there's not much i can do...... plus i'm only running 600rms.... |
