Steps for Good Fuel Economy
General maintenance helps in maintaining a good fuel economy. Following is a checklist of services which should be done periodically.
MAF sensor cleaning (twice an year) OCV valve service (once an year) PCV valve service (twice an year) Throttle body cleaning (twice an year) TPS sensor cleaning (twice an year) AFR sensor cleaning (4, 5 times an year) Catalytic Convertor unclogging (depending on condition) Fuel filters cleaning (twice an year) Engine Flush (twice an year) Always use genuine air filter, oil filter from Toyota 3S dealerships Use engine oil 5W30 ALI SN GF-5 of any Total, Toyota, Shell. Check the plugs and Coils regularly. Don't service plugs. Change them. Check fuel filter. Service then if clogged. Do the decarbonisation of engine combustion chambers once an year. Wheel balancing and aligned should be carried out atleast 3 times in a year provided if you use your car mostly within city. Clean and wax the car for less friction and drag. |

Dang, I am seriously slacking.
A lot of this is dependent on environment, driving conditions, mileage though. What are you using for "decarbonisation?"

Disagree. All lot of these are too much. Ie pcv maintenance 2x per year? Engine flush 2x a year??
Do regular maintenance, no jack rabbit starts, and drive slower.

I consider this entire posting "spam". Obviously the original poster knows nothing about proper car maintenance.

My last tank was 45mpg and, as another poster said, no jackrabbit starts and a "relaxed" driving style really helps. |

Really though, following the recommended service intervals from Toyota, one should be golden. Using quality fuel from a reputable station certainly could contribute to better fuel economy and performance.

Wow! That's an insane, very unnecessary and expensive amount of maintenance. Considering a front end alignment is $150.00 a pop, plus you would know if you had a wheel balance issue. I drive a 2008 and have never had a front end alignment. Just replaced the OEM Goodyears because they were stale dated not worn out. Follow Toyotas recommended maintaince schedule and you will be better than okay.

You can shave 1 MPG if you Americans left the 60 pound bug out bags at home :) hehe
I vaguely recall watching a F1 race where the race cars would lap 0.2s quicker per lap as the fuel levels dropped in the tank, reducing the weight and improving lap times. Fuel economy will improve. Maybe dump the tools, and the back seat, and the beer belly. Replace with memory foam mattress and go yamping... |
