This is terrific news! I had a Progress Tech on my 05 xB and it was just what the doctor ordered. I looked at my Yaris hatch on the rack and just couldn't see how there would be any room for a fit . . but fortunately somebody worked it out.

For the average guy, a rear sway is all you need to have fun with. Can't wait.

Upgraded sway bars (in this case thicker in the front and added in the back) will stabilize the car in hard cornering by counteracting lean induced by gravity. I will say that the stock set up on the Yaris is great; however, if you really want to extract the most from the car, thicker/stronger bars will help. It should be noted that its best to lower the center of gravity before tightening the car with sway bars to keep the handling more predictable. A high center of gravity with thick sway bars make the car a bit unstable in hard turns. This is one of the reasons why there is no sway bar on the car.

Correction: No rear sway bar in the car. The front is there but thin due to ride height and lack of a bar in the back...sorry, long day...heh.

My old Neon used to lift the inside rear tire and it was stock, on sticky radials.

Going with too large of a sway bar can cause snap overseer which is very dangerous. Perhaps there will be an adjustable type bar. That would be ideal for people wanting to have the best of all worlds.

and this a bad thing? that wheel isn't doing anything anyway.

it's bad on RWD/AWD but on FWD it's pretty common, it's a funny site too at an autox.

I also saw the bar. However, what I saw was a rear strut tower brace, not a sway bar. I was pretty beefy looking and was made of stainless steel tubing of about 2" diameter.

There is a sway bar in the back... It's what the wheels are attacked to!

But really, the torsion style suspension utilizes "torsion a.k.a. spring" in the components. That swaybar shaped beam the wheels/brakes/springs/shocks and such are attached to is in fact a swaybar.

I stopped by Progress and they said the rear sway bar is in production and it should be released sometime after the New Year. It's similar in design to the Xb bar except that the mounting bracket connects to our spring bucket instead of the welded on brackets that the Xb has. 22mm diameter. No retail pricing yet, but I will try to organize a group buy as soon as they are available.

When adding a rear sway bar to achieve the improved handling, would the addition of a larger-diameter front sway bar be recommended as well?

considering this car does not have a rear bar I do not think it would be necessary to upgrade the front bar. However if there is a big difference in the bars then if the front bar is to thin compared to the stronger rear bar then you may experience some understeering.

the basics of anti sway bars really short

stiff front = more rear traction
stiff rear = more front traction

side effect of stiff front = less camber change during compression which is a good thing.
