WELLLLL I know some people are gonna be like "you shouldn't be driving that fast to need one anyways! mehhhh grumblegrumble"

But a Valentine 1 usually does the trick very well for cheaper. Greatest radar detector I've used so far. and with updates you really can't beat it.

And they sell kits for some cars that you can hardwire it in, so the V1 is not noticeable at all. Also have add on mirrors as well and small remote boxes for dash mounting. Pretty neat.

Range with batteries is far less effective. . . it's not to hard to directly wire the detector to the car and have it discreety hidden. If you aren't able to do it yourself, you can have a shop do it for a few bucks. It's a simple process that litterally takes minutes.

well i did end up getting the solo s2 i mean i felt like this one is in the middle in terms of price and quality and yeah i guess im sacrificing some range because of batts but i just know the wire would annoy me i might try to direct wire it that does seem like a plus i guess when i get it ill do a test maybe a vid i plan on trying to put it up above the rear view mirror or at least at that level so its higher up might increase range to compensate for batts i dont even know

Thing is, the antenna's on the solo are nowhere near as good as the passport. But the solo will still run circles around a cobra or whistler. And yes, there is a marked improvement in performance running off the direct wire. All you have to do is chop an old telephone cable if you don't want to hack the factory cable. IMO, detectors are worthless against laser, so the whole mounting low argument carries no weight. Similar to radio (which is basically how radar works), you want the best reception point. Just make sure you don't let any tint/magnetic strips up top prevent a clear view.

so i was using it most of the day today no cops were around so i have yet to have it in use near a cop using radar or laser. but it worked when approaching one of those stationary radar guns / speed displays. its mounted on the upper left corner of the windshield completely hidden from the outside by the tint strip on the top of my windshield. seems to work well so far. i made some custom settings as the solo s2 has programmable options. maybe ill try a vid tom
