Coolant Light
I just purchased a 2007 Yaris Hatchback 39k and I noticed that when I start the car in the morning the "Green" Coolant light will remain lit until I drive it a little bit. I checked the fluid and it was between Full and Low. I filled it with radiator fluid to the Full line and it still continues to do this. Is this normal? I didn't notice it while test driving the car and it only does it in the morning...if I use it throughout the day it doesn't light up.
Thanks in advance for any help you may be able to provide! |

Yes, it's quite normal. It's not a Low level light, purely related to temperature. It just means the engine is still cold. Red is bad of course but Green just means that the engine is still cold and needs to warm up. Drive it cautiously until the light goes off and you 'll be fine.
---Reason is we don't have an actual coolant temp guage.

It's alright! Welcome! If you take a quick look at the FAQ thread, you'll read some other topics many others might have been curious about.

I have heard also that if you have an auto-trans, you can't get into OD until after the light goes off. I have a manual so I can't say for sure. I think it goes off somewhere around 135-140 degrees. I have an ultragauge that shows temp.

Yes my 2007 Automatic Transmission. Will not go into 4th until the Green LED goes out. My Scanguage shows about 130 degrees F water temperature when it goes out.
The shift points are also different until the transmission warms up. |

+1 about the A/T. It's real annoying especially in the winter!
