Since I posted the initial question on both the "New Yaris Owner" and "Fuel Economy" forums (this is called cross-posting), I also posted the answer to the problem in both.
At least I HOPE that's the answer to the problem. Okay; no more picking on the Yaris! This was "pilot error," so we start with a clean slate. Cute little Yaris!!! |

lol
hey.. the 3rd and 4th are not indented? I had driven my sister's camry a few times.. and the 4th and 5th are in horizontal. You would pull it down and it's 5th, and push to the left and it's 4th.. btw, for the automatic drivers... all automatic yaris have this set of lights in the cluster that tell you which gear you are shifted to. :) |

I like the design of the a/t shifter. You can tell which gear you shift into when pretending to be a manual without accidently shifting into neutral! Glad you solved your problem though.

Haha that happened to me in the first few days of ownership. "Why is the engine so damn loud at highways speeds?" It wasn't until I looked in the manual that I figured it out. I was even a bit scared that I might damage the car by shifting into 4th.
That's what happens when you are so used to driving stick that all those little grooves on the Auto confuse the hell out of you. |

Was not my problem. Was otterhere's.
My salesman did not take the time to explain it to me though. Luckily I already knew. Actually, I had to show him the sliding fold flat rear seat thing. They were clearly no very educated on the Yaris. |

who me? Idk how I do... it just happens some times. I usually end up knocking it out when i reach for something. its not like it happens a lot, im not that silly. Its scary enough the first time you accidently do it... it doesnt need to be repeated.

Actually, guys, I just noticed that when the car's in P (park), the stick is all the way over to the left. You actually move it up and OVER to get it there; the opening is double wide like the opening in the 3-D slot, unlike the others.
Quite likely I made the unconscious association when it came to the 3-D and just assumed I needed to have it all the over the left here, as well... Again, without thinking too hard about it, obviously, but there were so many other things new and different to get used to that I probably just figured, well, if it goes, all is well, but da*n that engine is loud, and why such lousy mileage? Okay; if everyone's done razzing me, we can move on to another topic now. |

Yes, lets.
At least now we have another "obvious" question to ask the next person who is exasperated with a low mileage yaris.
