i had a 383 stroker with stock manifolds, stock y pipe dual cats and aftermarket exhaust...ran almost failing for PA emissions. i put on long tubes and a SINGLE CAT from random tech and i got waaay better emissions. HC and NOX went way down, not so much on CO2 tho, and co wasnt much lower but they werent bad to begin with.
i understand what you're saying about 'physics' and i only bought the cat because it was 'emissions legal' and i didnt believe it. but the numbers proved it, and the sound did too. now i dont know how they did it and i also dont know if it was much power added vs the LT header install, but i passed emissions with a stroker motor, and a cam motor with no problems with this cat. so i'm game if i can afford another the bad side to this cat is simple...it's extremely expensive vs the magnaflow high-flow cat. it's like 400 bux vs 30 |

you could always try the magnaflow 54305. I have it installed and I love it, they are cheaper on ebay but I wanted a warranty (the salt on the roads here in winter kills an exhaust) so I got it here magnaflow 54305 , or you can try one of the vendors http://www.allexhaust.com/magnaflow/, they are always running sales/specials. either way its a great system and very easy to install. good luck

carsound on ebay sells them for like 35 bux and shipping...anywhere from 1.5" diameter to 4" diameter
all stainless construction, ceramic honeycomb with catalyst coated. you can also order any type of direct fit through them but you'll pay the price. universals are much cheaper and you could always cut off the factory ends and have them welded onto the magnaflow cat. |

4-2-1 as header then OBX 2.25" as exhaust with muffler from OBX. I cut and installed a Magnaflow free flow 12" cat, 6" diameter Mag. free-flowing muffler cut shorter to fit and as a resonator. Got no cel popping up and second season.

Has anyone here ever actually flow tested the stock cat or does everyone assume an aftermarket one flows better?
