Just installed K&N CAI
I spent the extra cash and installed the K&N Typhoon CAI the day before on my 09 Yaris and today the check engine light came on. Does anyone know why this happened since K&N claims that it shouldn't? BTW I thought the car got loud with the TRD Sport Exhaust, but now when you stomp the gas it gets really loud and throaty. Really cool!!

Checked K&N website for support and it suggested that the difference in air density caused the check engine light to trip and to clear the light and wait and see if it comes back on. So, I cleared the light and so far it has not come back on after a day of running errands.

just to be sure , does the heat shield ' s hole have a bigger diameter then the pipe
or is it just mine ?? |

Yeah, the hole is bigger. It needs to be since the engine/tube moves and the shield is stationary. Otherwise someting would break during acceleration, but I am no expert.

Light came back on today, on the way home from work. Thinking I wasted my money. I need to check with K&N tech support.

that really blows, i bought a chepo ebay for $50 had no issues. Is the diameter the right size? just seems like quite a few people with these overpriced intakes have had some cel issues. I am sure it happens to the chepo ones to but I guess you don't expect from the quality brand parts.

Which diameter, the filter itself? What cel issues? I should have researched this a little better.

this may sound stupid but isnt the K&N SRi designed for sedans only ?

I have the CA no SR version. The kit came with a reducer so that the pipe would fit on the carb. K&N website states that the CA fits all.

I talked to a K&N tech and he said that it could take about 100 miles before the ECU will adjust for the increased air flow. He also said that because this model, Typhoon, is new that the state has yet to test it so it will pass smog. It can take up to 2 years before all the paper work gets done and then they will send me the sticker which allows it to pass the smog test. This is a visual fail only at this time, not a emissions fail.

Does K&N state that system is compliant with the 2009 Yaris?
Last summer K&N told me that the Typhoon was only certified up to the 2007 models and that if installed on my 2008 the warranty wouldn't be honored as they had not yet verified/tested it on the 2008 models. Honestly, I'd be surprised if they have tested on 2009's already. And yes, the 2007 LB and sedan applications were identical.

'nother reason why I am glad that I went with the AFE, plus it is cheaper. Best of luck.
