Stuck on my install, advice?
I am stuck on my install.
I got almost everything installed apart from the amps. I haven't wired them. I think I have gotten ahead of myself this time. I have been working on the car for close to 2 weeks and its almost finished, yet so far, its frustrating. I have 2 amps. 1 for fronts and 1 for sub. When I purchased all the items, I didn't realise there was a bracket for the jack located under the passenger seat. I bought 2 amps with the idea that it was going to go under each front seat. I dont' really want an amp in the boot. The amps specs are 4 channel 4 x 80w @ 4OHM 2 x 240w @ 4ohm bridged and a 1 channel mono 1 x 1500w @ 1 ohm Speakers : Focal 165 K2P Sub: Image Dynamics IDMax 12 D2 V3 1000w RMS. ![]() I don't have a garage or tools. Having it cut out would mean I would have to pay a professional to do it. I am considering: A) Use the 4 channel ONLY. 2 channels for the front and bridge the rear channels for the sub. I understand that would be under-feeding the sub. B) Use the MONO only. Run the fronts off the head unit. C) Pay for somebody to have the bracket CUT out. Advice Please. |

Not a whole lot of options for amp mounting in this car, especially with multi-amp systems. In the boot(trunk), under the seats, or on the back of the rear seats are the most popular. It would seem that for the price you paid for that gear it would be worth it for you to buy a Dremel (or other inexpensive multi/cutting tool) and tediously cut it out of there yourself - DIY and save some cash in the long run. Dremels or a similar tool are invaluable for system installs. I intentionally bought a single amp with a really small footprint, and stuck it in the boot, because I knew mounting it would be difficult in this car.

If you absolutely don't want an amp in your trunk, then:
http://www.lowes.com/lowes/lkn?actio...-01&lpage=none lay down some heavy duty plastic and watch for sparks that may cause FIRE

What about mounting it to the bottom of the seat? There is plenty of clearance between the seat bottom and the jack mount. You might have to get a little creative with the brackets, but there are quite a few places you could bolt L-brackets to. |

Why not mount things under the rear seat instead of the front seat? Or do you have the funky trash-compactor tilt/slide/fold-flat split rear seat? :-)

Had a look under the rear seats. No way the amp would fit.
I had a look under the passenger seat and without removing that bracket, amp is a little too large to fit. Size of the amp : HxWxD(mm) 64 x 400 x 222mm Any more ideas before I consider the worse case scenario which is CUTTING out the brackets? |

How about just bending the tabs down on the bracket? That would gain about 5 cm.

has anyone checked to see how the bracket is mounted to the floor of the car? I don't see why Toyota would weld a jack bracket in place, it may just be bolted in.

There is no such thing as "under feeding" when talking about amps & speakers.
That sub would be fine with 250ish watts... but... you most likely would want a bit more umph. Personally... I'd bridge that 4 channel to run those Focal's and remove that mounting bracket even if it meant having to pay somebody $50 to cut it off just so I could run that 1500 to the IDMAX |

Does the amp fit in the front pull tray? I think that would be the best place to put it.

I checked that, its not bolted in. Its welded in. But its not hard hard metal. So going to try bending the brackets first then, cutting if that doesn't work. Quote:

Just bend it. On my '07 LB, I put a powered sub. under the driver seat. Had to bend that thing to get the sub. under the seat.
