Cool best way to mod with out the wife flippin

So, i have a wife that does not understand my addiction to modifying cars... and I am going to lower my car and put an exaust on, but I have to figure a way to do it with out the wife flippin a nut... she was slightly perturbed when I shaved all the badges and bought JDM ones, no did not care about new wheels and tires... anyone else have a similar problem?

I am in between you two, I guess.

My wife loves to drive cars - stick shifts. She liked taking people at stoplights with her '71 ALFA Berlina (4dr Sedan that looked like an old Toyota Carona). She understands all the driving stuff, and knows & likes car racing too - she loves the ROAR. We have attended F1, CART, vintage races (at Monterey) and ALFA club events.

However, her interest ends there. She sees no reason to modify cars, and the tecnical stuff - like the Scan Gauge II - is of zero interest to her. I have assured her I will not be putting "wheels" on the Yaris, and she was probably relieved the exhaust tip was in the $30-$40 range and looks pretty good, too.

Bottomline: I pick my spots on what to purchase for the cars.

Personally, I think a lot of money is being wasted today on over-modifying cars. Automobile, gasoline, medical and housing costs are extremely high and savings rates are at an historic low. That spells trouble ahead.

We both grew up in the So. CA car culture, but most of the $ back then went to just having one and driving it (yes, going to Newport/Balboa/Laguna Beach, etc and cruising Hollywood Blvd). We did that at age 16 and our parents didn't really need to worry about what might happen.

Anyway, I am just thankful my wife doesn't demand a 4dr gold-colored Buick!!! She loves our Yaris and the way it gets down the road - quickly.

Tnx God my girl loves car modding.

The problem is with my father, who technically owns the car, and he doesn't like engine mods.

Dammit, I want to install a turbo charger!

33 years, once they realize you're home doing the honey dews, albeit a little whacked, they tend to calm down. I sold my paid for 2005 Tundra for 27,500, bought a LB Yaris for 13,000 and spent another 1200 in mods and she thinks I've spent too much....the nature of the beast! But it sure the fuck beats dating!!!!

I just bought mine a more expensive car. It's hard for her to complain when I'm just bringing mine up to the comfort level of hers. Also, I've been selling a lot of my excess backpacking gear on eBay to pay for this stuff so I don't have to use 'real' money.

my approach is to just do it, and deal with the wife later...

or lie about it, and tell her the car has a recall on it, must goto the shop, and have them mod the car for you...

or tell her you could be spending the money on hooker's, crack, and gambling!!!

Wow, I must say, I just got engaged, and I must've picked a good one, because car modding is the least of her worries, or really anything else I spend money, as long as bills are paid and food is on the table, she really doesn't care, especially when I point out how much she spends on clothes and kitchen stuff. And taking them out to dinner and a movie helps too.

maybe some low-cost, low-impact mods like swapping the taillights for Thai-style ones with LED brakes...

Just do what I do when my gf complains. ignore her... then when your finished make her go on a car ride with you so she can see that you weren't wasting time and $ (well atleast with functional mods, new springs, amp, spears... and such).

Am Iucky? My wife likes " Pimp my Ride"..she was the first to notice that our yaris Sedan had a ugly exhaust.!

She likes spinner wheels...we're both trying to choose a set of wheels 17", not spinners though..

She likes the idea of getting HID's ( a set on its way) since I'm kind of blind!

I just bought a pair of speakers and a Stereo...I didn't tell..I hope she agrees once I've installed it.

LoL. I'm on the flipside of your story Black Yaris. I'm the wife that is ready to mod her new Yaris LB when it gets in, but my hubby doesn't want me to "go crazy." He's a computer guy, he loves modding his computer, and has no interest in cars. So I don't know if I can persuade him why I need to lower my car and purchase a new cold air intake system?

.....and heck ya I'm getting my hair dryer ready to remove those badges ..... and I haven't asked him what he thinks about that yet.

If I was in your situation I would totally try to "bribe" her, give her a gift that she is interested in or take her out. That's how my husband does it.

As for me, I guess I'll just give him a new processor to overclock for xmas and hope that he's too busy messing with that to see me messing with the car. Good luck to you!
