Question Any info onThrottle Body Cleaning ???

I've never done this myself, and would like to know the proper way to do it since Toyota stealer-ships charge a good amount for what i can only see as something that's fairly easy to do.

Any one want to take on a photo DIY for Throttle Body Cleaning?

or at least a couple tips on what to touch and what not to touch when cleaning.

Step 1 remove air intake assembly from throttle body
Step 2 spray throttle body assembly with carb cleaner
Step 3 whipe with rag
Step 4 put back together

Which some shops call fuel injuection or throttle body cleaning. Even though thats not entirely what it is.

so It is easy to do.

Any specific cleaners? Is Carb Cleaner alcohol?

Yea the Sea Foam thing sounds cool... would you have to change the oil after that kind of treatment?

Once you have cleaned it , install a catch can on the engine breathers
your car will thank you for it .
And so will your wallet

Yes I'm wondering the same thing... How delicate is this butterfly valve, and should i touch it?

They're typically quite sturdy, but I've never seen the one on the Yaris. When I clean the TB on my Jeep I either manually open the valve with my finger or use the mechanical lever on the side of the TB.

would love to see a step by step for the seafoam the intake manifold. I've only done the seafoam on old carburetor type engines. I was thinking i'd foam my yaris when I get in the neighborhood of 60,000 - 80,000 miles. At 42,000 right now.

Yea I would love to see a Sea-Foam DIY.

So when cleaning the Drive By Wire Throttle Body, is there a way to move the butterfly other than with your finger?

Also should you start the motor without the airbox in place like the old carburetors?

I took my air box off and had a hard time moving the butterfly so i could not clean my throttle body as good as i would like.

ok..i had a fren done on his yaris sedan..

what to do, turn your key to ignition on (dont start your car!!), asked a second person or put a brick on the accelerator paddle..then your butterfly valve will open..

we have to do so as our car is DBW-Drive by wire..for drive by cable, no need to turn your key to ignition, just press the paddle to the metal..:)

you can take off the hose to the brake booster or any other thing that the intake has vacuum on...slowly pour the seafoam in there or buy a metering device from the auto store.

the metering device has a fitting that slips into hoses and is like an orifice and slowly allows product to mix with air and still maintain vacuum. it looks like a stepped drill bit or speed bit but it's plastic or rubber.

or, there's another that's pressurized and hooks up to an air hose and you put it in front of the throttle, after the MAF and it'll clean the throttle as well as the idle air controller.

I don't notice lost performance but can confirm that winter temperatures and possibly winter blend fuel steal nearly 100 kl. per tank from my sedan (Southern Ontario). I go from 6+ commutes to 5+ commutes per tank come winter.

Preventative maintenance. Why wait until it's really bad?
