20v vvti
ok yaris heads... so i recently posted a thread on 2zzge, my search continues for a motor that puts out more power that wont *uck me financially.. some one mentioned then 20v 4age it is off of a levin and is FF and so i think this will be a more convinient swap , its awsome OEM ITB'S .. i need input out there sure its older but, its off an ff platform and just a lil bigger.. 1.6, the engine is fairly cheap, to those hardcore enthusiests out there, know of any one who has done it..? what major fabs will i be looking at..? how different are the tranny's and the mounts, i will be doing research as well.. but the comunity will probably help a lot more than some sites..

DoriKnights;88330]ok yaris heads... so i recently posted a thread on 2zzge, my search continues for a motor that puts out more power that wont *uck me financially..
1st problem, if you are not willing to spend $$ you are not going to get more power. some one mentioned then 20v 4age it is off of a levin and is FF and so i think this will be a more convinient swap 2nd problem "convinient swap" that is an oximoron. No one has swaped anything into our cars so there is nothing convinient about it , its awsome OEM ITB'S .. i need input out there sure its older but, its off an ff platform and just a lil bigger.. 1.6, the engine is fairly cheap, to those hardcore enthusiests out there, know of any one who has done it..? No one has done a swap what major fabs will i be looking at..? how different are the tranny's and the mounts, i will be doing research as well.. but the comunity will probably help a lot more than some sites..:thumbsup No one can answer this question. All you are going to get is guessing and speculation. |

Yes, I remember that post a while back. I am the one that posted about the 4age 20 valve black top. The pictures I posted a while back are from overseas somewhere. What I heard a while back is that the company that did the swaps got shut down some how. Not because of the swaps something else, maybe they didn't get enough business. But here is what you should check first before you do this, unless you are towing the car on the back of a trailer and you won't be driving it on the street.
For example I will use California because it seems to be the strictest. California lets you to swap engines into you vehicle, as long the the engine is the same year or newer than the chassis with all of the wiring that works. What this means is that the blacktop is a motor that was used in the 1990-1999 I think?? Know the only motor that was produced newer or the same year as the yaris(U.S. spec). You only options are the 1zzfe, 2zz-ge, rebuild the 1nz-fe, or the new dual vvti (2RZ-FE the new xd/corolla) These are the motors that I know will fit in the chassis, and will pass the emissions visual check when that time comes. Check you emissions law if you have one, if you don't, I would do the 20valve black top. Good luck. :)

IMHO, the 4A-GE 20v motor swap is the pinnacle of Yaris modding. I would pay good money to see it happen one day, but I'm not holding my breath.

Ok here is a little list that I came up for the swap.
1. Engine $900 2. 5 speed Tranny $200 3. Master Ecu? 4. Clutch Pedals? 5. Shift Linkage? 6. Shift boot? 7. Clutch Resvoir? 8. Axles? 9. Hubs? 10. Brakes? 11. Shift bushings? 12. Custom Suspension? 13. Knuckles? 14.Custom downpipe? 15. Custom intake? 16. WIRING? 17. Power steering? 18. Man HOURS!!!! 19. Custom Drive Shaft 20.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ 21. More Man Hours.... Whooo HAhaha. You can probably get a way with spending about 10k if you do it yourself, get junkyard parts. But 15k for sure. Their are no resources, that we know of. What you really should do is get a hold of Street Image. They have did the swap before. http://www.streetimage.com/# I posted this a while back to on the forums. http://www.yarisworld.com/forums/sho...&highlight=2zz Oh yea, while reading, it says about the 2zz-fe. Their is no such thing. I am 1000% sure you cannot use a fe head, on the the 2zz-ge motor, they are totally different, and it wouldn't just work. To be honest I would do either the 2zz-ge swap, or just boost the 1nz-fe motor. Their are after-market parts available for both engines. Until then be---------> Please trust me on this one... Engine Changes Engine changes are legal as long as the following requirements are met to ensure that the change does not increase pollution from the vehicle: * The engine must be the same year or newer than the vehicle. * The engine must be from the same type of vehicle (passenger car, light-duty truck, heavy-duty truck, etc.) based on gross vehicle weight. * All emissions control equipment must remain on the installed engine. I will email them myself 2 morrow, and ask them what was actually involved with the swap.

This is a popular swap among us 1st gen MR2 guys. Then again, we already have 4age's in our cars..
At least for the Yaris the manual tranny is in the same family (c-series). You may not need to buy a new one. Here's one example: http://www.padandwheels.com/mr2/blac.../blacktop.html |

Very interesting! Look to see if you can find part numbers on the clutch and flywheel for the Yaris and MR2. If they match, you are one step closer.

yes, we have discovered that the tranny from the 4age bolts right up to the yaris 1nz-fe if that's what you are talking about?? Maybe vice versa to. It wouldn't make since to put the yaris tranny onto the 4age because it is weaker IMO.. Just get the whole tranny that comes with the 4age(STRONGER). If you do this project please write a write up. The seems very interesting.
I also here that the 2zz-fe tranny bolts up to the 1nz-fe also. How much power do you want??? You can get about 220-230whp on the stock motor/tranny until you have to rebuild or so. The stock crank is good for around 9,000-9,500rpm. Why don't you get this motor. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/4AGE-...QQcmdZViewItem It has all the things that you need. It would be better to get a whole front clip, but o well. The most difficult part of the swap is the wiring. Have fun...

The hardest part I can see about this swap is making sure you can get the axles and mounts and such to work. The wiring would be the easiest bit assuming you go with a stand-alone like megasquirt or something like that.
If you want just N/A power, go blacktop. If you want to go for boost later on, go with a silvertop, they are better suited to turbo. Oh yeah, first post! Hi Everyone! |

so far there are others in the scion comunity attempting the same swap.... check it out
"according to some reading, the C50 and C160 transmissions fit it thus the xB and xA's C150 will fit just fine. just seems to be an obviouse swap option and looks to be more on the simple side compared to other options |

yes a micro-tech will be used for the brains with its awsome itb's and super high revs the 4ag has,a black top is what the block will be due to silvertops heavier internals and the black tops better airflow design around valves

edited Also the cv joints... Welcome to the forum.. Why the blacktop?? I would suspect the silver top because of the TVIS.

It would seem a lot of work to get 160hp?, when you can just add a turbo now and get the same results, much cleaner, less custom, or am I missing something? Or this just one of those projects done for the pushing the envelope?
