Pedals

I was wondering if anyone had installed some aftermarket pedals?
If so what brand and if possible a DIY would be great.

The only pedals I have found that I really like are those cheap ones that you find in discount for 22$. I think they are the Pilot motorsport brand which only installs by clamps. I have been considering this for a while but are the clamps safe? Im not in the mood to be drilling holes into my pedals.

Thanks for the input.

I bought these from Toyota.
They slip right on and require no drilling or screws or clamps.

My experience with pedals is that they ALWAYS slip off, no matter how expensive the brand. They only way to make certain is to drill them on, or you use the OEM slip on covers (since they are custom formed, they are near impossible to accidentally slip off).

I don't know, but they're just pedals. . . is it worth having an accelerator/brake/clutch malfunction because you wanted pretty pedals? Be safe about it. . . drill or buy OEM.

To clarify, when I said OEM, I meant the OEM slip on upgrade covers, like auxmike mentioned. I have the same ones on my Yaris, and the same on both my xA and tC. They're usually around $40-60.

For me, it's always been about function. I have huge feet so I never slip my foot off the pedal... But because of Toyota's upright seating position, you don't really push forward and back on the pedals, but rather down, causing the pedal to go forward while the foot slides backwards on the pedal, as the heel is planted. Proper operation would result in lifting the heel off the ground, unsupported, which is not doable. Normally it's no issue, but if it's raining and my shoes got wet from outside, the rubbing on the rubber pedal causes an ungainly squeaking noise, like a worn out windshield wiper blade, and it drives me nuts. Metal pedals solve this problem. It's not an issue with lower seated cars with feet stetched out in front of you. Normally, cars, trucks, and busses with upright seating have pedals that feed into the floor, with the axis of rotation near the heel, rather than under the dash...

Word of advice about installing the Toyota pedals is to soak them in hot soapy water for several minutes prior to installing them

We are using the Sparco Race pedals. Not much to look at, but they offer good grip and are a nice size.

You have to remove the OE covers, and drill some holes, but it is an easy mod.

^ those are nice. Jason, is heel/toe easy for you in this car? I think the gas pedal is a little far back to make that easy. I took off my clutch and brake pedal covers and replaced them with grip tape - that gave me a 1/4" change.

Ours are especially blingy, we got the red ones.

No, heel/toe in the Yaris is a pain, it is one of the most frustrating cars I have found. We went the other way and put a 1/4" aluminum spacer under the brake pedal cover to help even it up with the throttle. I also changed to a low top driving shoe to help get enough articulation, even then I often found myself pegging the throttle and banging the limiter on downshifts.

I was ready to change the pedals again, but we found moving the steering wheel and seating position (further back and down) seemed to fix the problem. I did not have any problems at the Miller race with the new setup.

In regards to the genuine Toyota sports pedals? What exactly is involved with installing? Do they just sit on top of the stock pedals or do I need to remove the stock pedals and replace them with the genuine sports pedals?
