Does Toyota reset the speedo for the Yaris that have 14" and 15" rims?

Just wondering if Toyota puts in the proper speed sensor for the 15" rim that comes on the cold weather package? I was just thinking about it and thought I'd ask since it seems that most Yari come with 14", wouldn't it throw off the speedo if they didn't change the sensor?

as far as i know the sensor ISN'T changed.

When you go between rim sizes the tire sizes change with the rim so the overall diameter stays the same. if you get a 17 inch wheel you will notice the smaller sidewall compared to factory. Plus 1 inch isnt going to make any difference. Maybe 1 or 2 percent variance in your speedo which isnt even detectable by a analog gauge.

Even if they did, I'm sure it would be a dealer-setable option in the ECU rather than having to replace a sensor.

The stock 14 is 175/65/14 = diameter = 23.0 inches
The stock 15 is 185/60/15 = diameter = 23.7 inches

Which is a 3.4% variance :D An inch would be 5%(ish) and that could be the difference between a ticket and not.

I would imagine the tolerance for speedometers on new cars is smaller than 3%, but I could be wrong. I'd say they have different speed sensors.

1 inch circumference difference is ok but 1 inch diameter bigger will make a big difference.

dont most yarii come with at least the convenience package, thus the 15" rims?

I know in our region, of which Toyota seems to LOVE selling certain cars in certain regions, I'm sure all of our Yarii's here have the cold weather package. But I know there's people out there like out west and other warm places that don't have a rear window wiper, no rear defrost, 14" rims, etc.

^^ that's a difference on the speedo of about 2%, not 1, and a 195/55 is 23.4 inches, so you are only seeing a little more than half the difference that someone who switched to 185/60 would see..

I haven't researched, so you might be right about them not resetting it, but I would think toyota would take care of something like this, especially how with how low the cost difference would be out of the factory.

I've never seen a Yaris with 14's because it's almost impossible to find one without at least the "convenience" package.

As others pointed out, tire sizes change to compensate, so there's no real difference.

I picked up some Echo 14" steelies with 175/65/14 winter boots last fall. They stand approx. 1" shorter than my OEM 185/60/15 Goodyear 3-seasons. The car is much peppier and the brakes are incredible when using the 14's. That said, highway mileage surely takes a beating due to the higher rev's required to stay with the flow.
With the 14's at 100 kph on the speedo the GPS reads 98 kph. Now that I have the 15" 3-seasons back on I'll need to check how close the speedo is to accurate against the GPS.

There are two separate part numbers for the "Gear Sub-assy, Speedometer" in the EPC. for the ATM:

33403-29525 (N=21, Mark 21:25, 185/60-15)
33403-59015 (N=22, Mark 22:25, {no listing of tire size with this one})

This is only like a $30 list part. Most manufacturers do this when they offer different wheel/tire packages.

These are the OEM wheel/tyre sizes w/tyre diameter:

14x5, ET45, 175/65/14 = 23.0
15x5.5, ET45, 185/60/15 = 23.7
16x6, ET51, 195/50/16 = 23.7
17x6.5, ET51, 205/45/17 = 24.3
TRD Option 18x7.5, ET42, 215/35/18 = 23.9

from 06- early 08 most non-RS 3 and 5dr models were sold w/ 14's and 175-65-14 tires (like mine)

it wasnt till mid-08 MY that they went up to 185-60-15 as standard rims/tires in canada....in the states most got 15's and the larger tires

i run 195-50-15's now which is what the echo guys use cus they all got 175-65-14's stock as well

you just need to know waht your car came with and stick to that rolling diameter

i dont think toyota can/will adjust the speedo if you buy different sized rims/tires
