Bend / Cracked Heliums (Sh%&t happens) - Toyota Yaris Forums

Long story short. 10 pm last night, dark road, slight rain, going thru a turn at 35mph, sharp edge pothole filled with water (almost invisible).... and well, Sh%&t happens.

Today I'm back on my OEM alloys.

Please join me in my sorrow.

ouch, at least you can pick one up for cheap, go ahead and get two

sounds like that pot hole would have ruined any wheel

Yeah, some potholes will do in just about any rim, I once bent a 15" alloy on 31" tires on a pothole. Not as bad as your bend but anything over 50Kph and the wobbles were bad

There's a guy around here who claims that can fix almost any wheel. I've seen some work he has done and is pretty amazing. I'm going to give him a call. I think the biggest problem (If it can be fixed) would be to match the paint color. I bet that bronze will be a bitch to match.
Maybe I could go for a GOLD finish in the 4 wheels ... hmmm

Oh man... That sucks!

I do appreciate the fact that you posted this, though. You're making me rethink my wheel decision. We get those kinds of potholes all the time down here, and it looks like these heliums (and maybe the feathers as well) may not be up to the task.

Good luck finding replacements!

By the looks of the damage, that pothole would have owned most rims. Look on the bright side... cheap rim means a cheap fix. What if you were rolling on some Works?!

Exactly!!! MAYBE some Forged ($$$) wheels like the Volks would have suffer a little less damage... but I sure would be crying if I had bended a $500 wheel. Plus it sure would be a much harder wheel to replace.
I can honestly tell you that I'm happy with the konigs. Even if you broke one wheel every year... where else would you find a nice looking 10.8lbs wheel for less than $100 shipped???

Ouch... That is the exact reason I would sacrifice weight for strength anyday.

I agree no wheel could have survived this, but Heliums do have a reputation for being weak (the lip on it does look thin). By the way, what was your air pressure when this happened? In the pictures, it looks like your tire survived; crazy on a hit that hard.

Hmmm... as Chino and largeorangefont said. This could happen to any wheel. You will have to be riding on some heavyweight bricks and pretty fat rubbers to survive a sharp pothole at some speed.

That must have been a huge pothole to bend the wheel through that tall of a sidewall. I'm actually impressed the wheel didnt break.

You are better off ordering a new wheel. It will be cheaper.

Sometimes these things happen. If someone thinks brand x wheel would have survived that hit unscathed they are delusional.

Yeah keep the wheel like an old broken skateboard and tell some insane story about how it "went down"

This wheel will make an interesting conversation piece possibly finding a new home in your entry way or guest bathroom. It's a good thing.

wow that sucks man. i see bend wheels all the time at work but yours is the worst i have seen in a while.

Had that happen on an old plym colt...steelies and tall tires. Don't matter how much a wheel costs...none would have survived.

Man sorry to see that

I gotta replace my rims too I think, hit quite a few potholes that appeared out of nowhere, none too fast, thankfully, but now once I reach 130km/h there's a distinct vibration going through the car

Oh well... Guess I'll keep these for show and get some 16" for go!
