A/C not cold.

Recently I found that my Yaris Sedan's air condition is not such cold. I living in Northern Utah and it is usually 88 degrees at days.

just wondering if the dealership will be willing to fix it? (Tired of dealing with Toyota dealer in my town)

Thanks a lot!!!

I remember a thread about the a/c not being very cold...i thought it was finally put to a rest because they said something about how our cars are low hp and they didn't want to put in a too powerful a/c unit that the car cannot handle?

That's just not true. The A/C in the Yaris should work just as efficeintly as the A/C in any other vehicle.

I better get it checked out then!! Heh heh it's way worse than my 2 previous cars...Ford Tauraus..and Chevy Impala...i've never had to crank the fan past 2 or 3...and that's with the fresh air and not the recycled air...plus i have a stinky smell when ventilation is on...after using air con and its off...

If the stinky smell smells like sulfur, then there is a TSB on this. You will need a new catalytic converter. Search this forum under for "TSB" and you will see it.

Check if the knob is set to fresh air or to recycle the cabin air....the recycle really made a difference in mine.

my ac works fine,

ACs are pretty complex, don't DIY, dealership will fix it for free in fact they'll do a thermostat check, don't let it slip cuz it's major $$$$$ when out of warranty.

I had the same complaint and took it in to the dealers. They put some dye in it and determined that a ring seal was split and they replaced the broken sealing ring and refilled with refrigerant. The explanation was that it got "overtightened" at the factory. I thought that Japan had the best quality control? It's 300% better now and I don't really put it above the first fan position even on a hot day after my car being in the parking lot all day. And I have a black car! It takes about 3 minutes to cool down now, which isn't bad. Yes, I would ask them to put some dye into it, it's really the best way to determine if there is a leak. That's what your warranty is for.

They do, but nobody's perfect, not even Toyota. However, they are closer to it than any of the other manufacturers.

I agree. Why mess with it yourself when the car's still under warranty? Let Toyota fix it.

My A/C wasn't cold at all yesterday... until my gf pointed out (later that day) that my temperature knob was about 1/3 of the way towards hot. Ooops!

Thanks guys.

I dropped off my car at dealership for two days to have the A/C checked. The technicians said nothing when I got the car back, just told me everything is under warranty and they already took care of everything.

When I drove the car back home, the A/C is still not very good as my 98 Jetta.

After read the post the above, I think it makes sense.

I am in North Utah and it is usually over 100 degrees outside which makes the cabin pretty hot. in that case, it is not weired if the A/C takes several minutes to make me feel cold.

I found out where that funny mold smell is coming from...it's only after i use the re-circulation mode and then go back to regular mode....when fresh air mode is used that smell isn't there...but the car also doesn't get as cold....

Hmm...i wonder if getting the car tinted will help keep the car cabin a bit cooler...since the tint is supposed to reflect some of that UV?

I believe that if you read the manual there is suppose to be a in cabin air filter. You take off the glove box and then you squeeze two tabs on the 10 inch by 2 inch door at the blower and you can place a filter in there. There is a thread called in cabin filter. It gives you the part number and everything. If you read the manual I think there is suppose to be one in there and there's not. I would check the manual and call the dealer.

i live in texas, its hot as balls and i drive a sand pearl black LB. when i get in my car its hot but as soon as i turn on the ac it'll take like 10 seconds or less and it blows ice cold (to the point where i have to turn it off cause i'll get goose bumps)

i know alotta ppl have complained about their ac's being shite, its quite funny really cause more times than not, the only problem is they're using fresh air and not recycled cabin air.
