The TRD's not recommended for use with s/c, there's a risk of some piece of that bypass valve being sucked into the blower... Noogie had to remove his trd cai, maybe Camell also? The one-piece designs dont present that problem.

I've heard the subject of hydrolock with a cai come up here before but never read any actual experiences.

I didn't like the condition of the by-pass fitting on the used TRD I got, so I just swapped-in a plain coupler. Works great, no problems, and you can adjust the fit a little more by cutting the coupler to the length you want.

I haven't compared it to any others, but I'm really pleased with the performance of my TRD CAI (using a weapon R dry filter)
I can tell you that I am running 2-3 degrees above ambient, vs. 20-30 degrees above ambient with the stock airbox.

Does anyone from a colder climate have any thoughts about the CAI in cold weather? How cold is "too cold" for the engine to run efficiently?

From my experience while living in Missouri, a state that gets both extremes of temperatures, CAI's work best when the temperature is low AND the humidity is low.

Yup, I get that. Humidity impedes combustion. Have you run your CAI throughout the winter? Do you block airflow to it in any way during the very cold months, or just let it run as-is?

I have read on other threads here of cels. I mean its what $200 or $300 "well developed and tested" as others on this forum have stated "TRD" then it should not have these issues. The chepos are copies if you look at them with a cheap airfilter. Some people say the airfilters are shitty but mine has really been working well.

Yeah, I purchased a Bomz CAI from off eBay a month ago and it's a replica of the AEM CAI for the Yaris. It works like a charm and the filter that comes with is isn't bad at all. I just purchased a brand name filter to replace it even before the Bomz arrived, because I "assumed" that the filter would be garbage.

I actually sold the Bomz just a few hours ago to another gentleman on the forum. The only reason I sold it is because I wanted to hear my exhaust instead of my intake, which sounded quite aggressive. Some people like that. I do. But I like a mild, mellow grumble from the exhaust a lot more.
