True. I've currently got the 7-spoke toyota alloys & have no clue what they weigh. I'd like to upgrade in the future though.

Awesome! How much would a turbo set up like yours run me? Do you have a business shop or are you a hobbyist?

^ LOL.

He has a turbo kit he was running successfully on his xA. Now he's selling it - it would require some modifications but probably would work just fine on a Yaris.

He makes stuff, sometimes designs stuff (::cough cough:: paddle shifter), and is super knowledgable -- and regularly arrogant. An asset to the forum... most of the time.

How'd I do?

so i just want to make sure here i was thinking of ordering a sway bar for my gf's new yaris.

so no yaris comes with a rear anti-sway bar? this seems rediculous to me as its not a truck and belongs on the road only.

so if i get one any recommendation for brand? TRD, Hellwig... what do you guys think?

there are lots of threads here... check out the TRD bar, its cheap, easy to install and does a pretty good job - but I'm slightly biased. There are other brands just use the search tool

FWIW, my first reaction was "huh?"... but, IF the OP is making use of the improved handling offered by a rear swaybar by simply carrying speed through turns, thereby slowing down less and having to accelerate less... there IS potential for improved MPG.

Odds are, you could do the same thing WITHOUT the rear bar, just with more body roll and less confidence. You really don't get into an understeer condition unless you're dive-bombing a turn way too fast or trying to accelerate too hard through the turn... conditions that a conscientious hypermiler would never put themselves in, anyway.

So, is your mission to convince your significant other that it's a good investment that will pay dividends with fuel savings?

I'll cosign. Sure, sure, you'll save tons of money and the fact that the car is more fun to drive is just a coincidence.

Heh. The average person drives about 10k miles per year. If we assume that the Yaris is capable of 40 mpg (it is) and that adding a rear swaybar, one can carry more momentum through turns and potentially gain 2 mpg (not likely, but it's a number... let's roll with it), then you're using about 5% less fuel. If we further assume that fuel costs are $2.50/gallon... that average person will save about $30/year by installing a rear swaybar and taking corners more "briskly".

So... in theory, maybe you could recoup the money in 4 years.

Just like nearly every other "fuel saver mod", even if it manages to save some fuel it will be such a small amount that it would never cover the cost of the mod itself, nor be enough to offset the resources and energy used to create, ship and install the mod.

I suppose the same could be said of the entire vehicle as well.

Don't know how much increased tire wear would cut into that, with or without a sway bar.

When I started this thread I thought to myself - could it?- it seems to help me hold my speed with less throttle through turns which should in theory result in better mpg. But be assured I got the bar to actually reform our medical system. I was getting a weak stomach from all the leaning and pitching from the stock Yaris- the rear bar really cleared it up. So now President Obama- you really don't have to do that health care reform thing you've been working on- my Yaris rear sway bar solved both that pesky energy situaion AND our health care crisis!

Next - getting my rear sway bar to solve global warming and to cure cancer..........stay tuned!

Might be the best mod of the century :-)
