I know there's a lot of topics regarding headlights, but all I'm looking for is a plain white light. I don't really care about improved visibility (as long as it's not worse than OEM) and I'd prefer not to deal with HID kits (unless it's more cost effective) and I'm not brave enough to even consider retrofitting.
A lot of people online suggest just going HID but I don't need drastic light output and I don't want to blind other drivers. I just want pure white light that will last, unlike the Silverstar Ultras I've read about. Is there a viable solution or am I being unreasonable?

Darn, I was afraid of that
![]() So, the weakest HID is probably the best way to go? |

I have 2 toyota cars, one it's all HID, the other one Silverstar Ultras, Yes HID is 5K and pure white compare to the S.U. Wonder for better vision... Silverstar Ultras are better, If I had to do it again, I wouldn't go with HID, rather adding some speed lights instead.

Any aftermarket hyper white headlight bulb is not going to last as long as stock.
Also, don't get a bulb with a color temp above about 4,000k or you will get reduced visability. Personally, I use "PIAA Xtreme White Plus H-4" bulbs They are 4,000k and emit a bright, much whiter light than stock. They are a great compromise between a white light and visibility. They also seem to last well over a year, depending on use of course. |

sylvania long life factory replacement
hella long life factory replacement osram long life factory replacement see a thing goin on here... or, you can go HID. as long as you're not going with a cheap knock-off of a single HID with a halogen high beam you should be fine. a dual filament HID or any kit that uses either the sliding shield or moving bulb to create the high should be fine. GARM offers a kit that's a single HID bulb with a moving shield for 89 bucks. i'd get that and i do plan on it in the near future. stick with 5000 or 6000k. |

the ones with the shield is designed for a halogen replacement
also, they make them now with dual filament. they're more expensive, but also more reliable. they have 2 ballasts, 2 sets of wires, and 2 full active filaments. they're the best designed, and best working. they're actually designed to put light where the light was meant from the factory. but, you also have 2 ballasts to locate, and 2 pairs of wires to run into the headlight assembly. a guy in my shop has a set. he paid 295 bucks. he ran them properly (as he is an auto tech) and 2 months later one of his ballasts failed. the company only warranted the bulbs, so he uninstalled them. i'd have jumped on it if he would have taken less than 150 for it, but he wouldnt go less than 200. so....i'm stuck with halogen now. i'm going with the $89 unit from garm. one ballast, one bulb, and an extra wire to move the shield when i want highs...which i never use any way. there's a pic somewhere on here with a white car that runs them. the beam pattern is flawless and looks factory. |

This kit is the one you're talking about? I see the shields you're talking about. Do you know if these are 35 or 55w ? Seems like 55 would be overkill. Also, 295$ sounds crazy high for a set of failed ballasts 2 months later.
