I have just bought a 2008 Yaris TR (in the UK).
I have been told by the dealer that it is possible to have an iPod dock fitted (at a cost of about £199), but not a generic Auxillary/Audio input. Does anyone know of any way of connecting an MP3 player to the audio system? |

Most cars come with the 3.5's but you can also get a form of an FM modulator that you can hook up a mp3 player, usb, sd card. Modulator usually connects to your power outlet/cig lighter. The sound quality is the only concern.
Would you ever consider getting an aftermarket head unit ?

sound quality is at least decent mp3 with a good one as long as it is within a foot or so of the radio.
For 200 pounds though you could probably find a head unit with a front usb jack. Probably less than that.

I bought an FM wired transmitter for circa £30. Fitted it myself, you need to take the radio out to access the wire from the aerial but it isn't too difficult. The only part I struggled with was the power supply for it.
I then drilled through into the flap comparent behind the steering wheel so my iPod sits in there out of the way :) |

I just bought a 2007 3dr hb, very base, with a aux in 3.5 mm jack but it doesn't do anything. If I connect an iPod nano 4th gen to it and select aux in on the radio, everything remains quiet.mwhat would be my first line of attack?

Just make sure you have the volume on the Ipod all the way up when it's plugged into the aux cord.

So that input is not amplified at all? Every stereo I've had with a 3.5mm input like that, you're able to run an external player with the volume all the way down.
