I wonder if Kalispel's SE is the same? His SE sat on the lot in Colorado as long as my non SE (but also manual) sat on the lot in Florida in 2014. We lovers of manual transmissions can sometimes be few and far between .

Really enjoying the car. I don't like the pieces of piano black(shiny) plastic that they use in a few places. A pain in the butt to keep clean. I keep antibacterial wipes in my car at all times, and usually do a quick wipe, but it leaves a streaky mess. I'm very OCD with germs, hence the wipes. If I take money out at McDonald's for a coffee, I wipe my hands, steering wheel, manual shifter, and parking brake. Rarely ever sick either. And having a few issues with the Bluetooth. Sometimes the call goes through, and sometimes it doesn't. I need to unpair it and then pair it again. Funny, it rings to the other party, but I can't hear them and they can't hear me. Other than that, it's smooth sailing. Almost at 1600 miles. I drive a lot. I'm sure after the newness wears off I'll slow down. And now that college has restarted I'll also be driving less, and spending less money in Amazon haha

Yeah, the interior piano-finish trim pieces were on my nit-pick dislike list also - though they did allow me to easily affix a small white TRD decal on the front of my gearbox.

I'm just hitting 1000 miles this week on my little Yaris. I average 230-250 miles/week total. So far, I am averaging 38.2 mpg - almost all regular city driving miles.

I haven't even tried my Bluetooth yet, as I don't even have a smartphone, lol.

Averaging 34 mpg with ethanol. Just put a tank in without ethanol and I'm at 36+. I'll know more after this tank is emptied. Not a fan of ethanol.

I can't even find non-ethanol gas in Phoenix, AZ. It's all rated at "up to 10% Ethanol".

I'm pretty careful re germs, but I do ratchet up into OCD territory when I'm around someone who is sick. Yesterday, I bought 4 very small packages of the Frito Lay 'Munchies' peanuts at a convenience store. The clerk was sick, and coughed into his hands before ringing me up. He picked up one of the packages, scanned it, and then plopped it down on top of the others. When I got back to my Yaris, I wiped each little bag with a different wipe, put those little bags in a bag from a different store, and also wiped my mileage credit card with a different wipe (even though he never touched it) . I also rarely get sick. I picked up the 'wipes in the car habit' from my cousin.

So with this Toyota care of 2 yrs or 25k miles, I understand that comes with free oil changes and rotations during that time. What I am curious about is Toyota only wants to change the oil every 10k miles. I understand that is the new requirement for their new cars/engines, but the Yaris engine is 10 yrs old. Are they supposed to change it every 5k or every 10k?

And I forgot to ask, does our Yaris come with a cabin air filter. I've heard the answer was no quite awhile back, but that just doesn't seem normal.

My service manual and paperwork indicates every 5k miles for services, including the initial free 2 years.

My understanding is that every new Yaris post 2009 or 2010 has had the cabin filter installed.

^^^^^ This. My '07 didn't have one until Hershey brought it up on a thread and I put one in .......... My '14 already had one in place when it was put on the lot at the dealership.

I paid for two oil changes myself (in Texas) for my '14 before stopping (at between 10 and 11k miles?) at Ronnie Lott's ( Go 49ers and Raiders ) Tracy Toyota in Tracy, California for the 10k service. I was prepared to pay for this, but their service department educated me re the gratis every 5k service for the first 2 years or 25,000 miles. I took my '14 to Tracy Toyota for that service (counted as the 10k) and then for the 15k and for the 20k services. Great service. The only piece of wrong information they gave me was re a 'grace period'. They said, re the last free service, that the factory allows a grace period of 1,000 miles....so just make sure you bring it in for the last one before 26,000 miles. Upon my return to Texas, I took my '14 in for the 25k service at about 25,200 miles IIRC. I don't want to get the dealer in trouble with the factory....so I won't say which dealership .....but he said "we'll put down 24,999 miles on the paperwork". He said if the paperwork shows 25,000 miles or more, the factory won't pay the dealership for the service.

I don't understand why Toyota would design a cabin air filter holder, but not put a filter in there. Crazy.

BLKHILLSGUY, I love your state. I've been there tons of times and hope I can move there some day. I love the Rapid City and Deadwood/Lead areas. Sioux Falls is pretty cool too.

Known as being CHEAP !!! I would imagine that they finally started putting in a filter at the factory in response to complaints.

Yah, my manual does too, but when I had my 13 Avalon they said only once every 10k or I would have to pay for it. But I thought the Yaris maintenance might be different as the engine is 10 yrs old and Toyota just switched to every 10k a few years ago. The people at Toyota will tell me 10k, but if it's supposed to be every 5k, they are going to give me that free service. I'm not risking it. The guy at Toyota already said every 10k for the Yaris, but he didn't seem to be the brightest bulb.

When I googled oil change intervals for Toyota engines, this is the answer I go back from Toyota.

Only Toyota vehicles in which 0W-20 synthetic oil is REQUIRED (except for the 2TR-FE AND 3UR-FBE Engines) have been approved for extended oil change intervals of 10,000 miles/12 months. (However, you should continue to check the oil level regularly and top up if needed. That will help your engine get the full benefit of synthetic oil.)

Vehicles in which 0w-20 synthetic is an option to 5w-20 mineral oil, (or 5w-30) will continue to require 5,000 mile/6 month oil change intervals, even if 0w-20 synthetic oil is used.

In the case of vehicles with 10,000 mile oil change intervals, the 5,000 mile service interval has not been eliminated. The traditional 5,000 mile maintenance procedures (such as tire rotation) will continue to be required, and the fluid levels (such as brake fluid) will need to be checked and adjusted as this time.

If the vehicle operation meets the standard criteria for "Special Operating Conditions" such as driving off-road, on dirt roads, towing a trailer, making repeated short trips under 32F, or extensive idling, the engine oil must be replaced at 5,000 mile intervals, regardless of what type of oil is used.
