I'll have to cut the top edge of the stick on bezel that the Pioneer HU came with so I can stick that to the top edge of the front of the HU. Should take care of that gap.

I have a small gap at the top of mine which I was able to minimize to nearly un-noticable.
There is a small amount of up/down movement of the HU that can be realized via the 4 screws securing it to the dash assembly. Holding the HU in place with the 4 screws slightly loose, try sliding it up and down. You should notice that you will be able to raise the HU about 1/16".
Give it a shot.
