During the winter I usually get what was advertised on the highway, a little less in the city. Mainly it's because my commute is very, very short and my car doesn't even fully warm up by the time I get there. I ride my bike unless it is below 30 degrees F or there is ice/snow/slush on the ground when I leave in the morning.
During the summer, I get better than advertised, and am satisfied with it. I'm not sure about in Canada, but here in the U.S. we get a different blend of fuel in the winter which is not as good for gas mileage. So if you combine the cold temps (longer warm up time), winter blend of fuel, you get worse mileage in the winter. In the winter if I drive mainly in the city, I can usually barely get 300 miles out of a tank. In the summer, driving in the city I've been able to get 370 miles out of a tank. It's like night and day. Don't make your judgment until at least driving it for a year. Also, your MPG should increase once the engine breaks in a bit at maybe 10-15k miles.
