I had a Praying Mantis for 3 months when I was in Okinawa. She hung out on a bush outside the door of the aid station where she hunted, and in the morning she would be atop the bush. When I approached she would stand as high as she could and wave her arms about. All I had to do was put my hand near her and she would climb right on.
Her favorite place to hang out was on my shoulder, but if I was holding still she always perched atop a microscope near my desk. She loved to snack on sugar water and to have her carapace stroked. At the end of each day I would place her back on the bush outside my door. Alas, after 3 months I had to go to Thailand for 3 weeks. When I returned she was gone and I never saw her again.
