Find a cul-de-sac and turn the wheel full lock either direction. Then accelerate forward and in reverse. If it is a worn CV joint it will go click click click with every rotation of the wheel while accelerating. If it is clicking it means the joint is worn and the axle should be replaced. It can wait until it gets louder and more common though.
Cheers.
