Okay. For what it's worth...with my 2009, I used Mobil 1 5W-30 after the first 10,000 miles...I never had a problem I needed to have repaired, but I was getting some interesting engine sounds that resembled a lifter issue. Performance wasn't affected that I could tell, and the Toyota dealer told me to just run it. Digging in before a failure would cost money and maybe cause more problems than they'd find.
I continued with Mobil 1 until I sold it at 79,000 miles. I figured with a deer collision, high-siding a traffic island, four winters, and towing a motorcycle trailer, as well as being towed on a dolly for three thousand miles...it was time to quit while I was ahead. The 2012 I bought under the Toyota program that includes free oil changes; so so far, with 14,000 miles on it, it's only had the dealer's mineral oil. No issues. When that program runs out, I'll switch to Mobil 1...be interesting to see if I get the engine clatter again. |
