That's a little absurd. I generally change the oil and rotate tires in my Yaris every 7000mi with full synthetic and a good quality filter. Crappy filters can be a good reason to change oil every 5000mi.

When I had a 2006 Corolla, I got the Mobil 1 full syn tested by Blackstone labs at the 6500mi mark. They reported that the oil probably had another 4-5k miles left.
