Shifting points?

I noticed I had achieved 36 mpg without using ethanol, and my next tank was 33 mpg without ethanol. I'm thinking I should probably shift at 2k RPM's versus the 3k that I am much more naturally inclined to do? What do you guys think? It's not as fun shifting at 2k. But if it makes 3 mpg difference, maybe I'll have to get used to that.
