Springs if you're just after the look, coilovers if you want some performance.
Suspension are consumable items that wear in around 40+ thousand miles so whether or not you simply accelerate the wear of the stock set by using lowering springs is irrelevant becasue if you didn't want to prematurely blow them you'd just pull a perfectly good working set of absorbers out of the car and chuck them aside for coilovers. That'd be quite a waste so you might as well use them anyway. I run springs and plan to go with Koni absorbers when the stockies wear out.

My deal is I am autocrossing in stock class. Not allowed to change springs but can use adjustable shocks/struts. But since there arent any I guess I'll wait an do coilovers next year. I don't want to move up to STS right now--there is a girl that could kick my ass so hard I'd travel back in time!
