with the PLATINUM 5w-30 the power is good , been averaging close to 39 miles per gallon since last NOVEMBER , and it tames the engine noise . Using REDLINE MT-90 true synthetic gear oil as well for the '08 5 speed liftback . This car was used for delivery route once a week for about 8 months as well , so quite extreme driving . One time the car got 42 m.p.g. while doing the route , other times 40 or little less ( some of that included 4 studded tires ). The route was 100+ miles , 4 hours long , around 400 stops , many steep hills , and 2 people . There's usually 2 of us in the car since the purchase . The '08 automatic sedan has the PLATINUM 5w-20 and got 40.03 miles per gallon on a test drive after 4 studded tires were put on ( see post under FUEL ECONOMY FORUM ) . That car has overall average of 39 miles per gallon as well , right on par with the stick shift

. We'll have to wait and see how the colder weather affects it .
