Had a similar situation last summer. Du$$A$$ was more than 6 car lengths behind before I signaled and begun moving to the passing lane to avoid rear-ending traffic entering from the on ramp. DumbA$$ went to the shoulder to attempt to pass me even though I was in the passing lane completely. Du$$A$$ missed the oncoming bridge rail by about 4 inches and only because I braked hard to let him back over. I decided in a split second that seeing Du$$A$$ splattered wasn't worth the paperwork.
Dum$A$$ were clearly exceeding the posted speed limit. Best of all Dum$A$$ was pulled over by CHP 10 miles further down the road.
Now I admit that naming the other driver du$$A$$ is probably unfair. But how else do you describe someone who risk a 2,300 lbs vehicle against a 26,000lbs vehicle. The worst I would have seen was $4.000 to $5,000 in fiberglass damage paint and maybe a fromt end alignment on the Motorhome. I would have driven away from the scene in my toad. The other vehicle occupants would have been airlifted or DOA at the scene.
While the Yaris has sprinter speed and quick suspension you will lose every time against the brick wall. .....And as far as I can determine the Yaris vehicle registration gave me no more or less rights to the passing lane than the motorhome registration.
From the pic you posted I say you were lucky.

While i was behind him he was in the slow lane doing less than 50 kph with nothing in front of him,i was in the fast lane doing 70+kph, jamming my brakes on in this situation would have only caused a chain reaction accident behind me.Anyhoo got the police report and he was charged with making a dangerous lane change and failure to check his mirrors, seems i had the right of way as i was already in the passing lane and he hit me I didnt hit him,the police explained to me that even had i pulled up beside him and just matched speed with him he still wouldnt have had the right to run me off the road.
As for lucky, you are right he was quite prepared to run me into oncoming traffic
