A dirty air filter doesn't make the oil dirty. The oil gets dirty from blow-by, gas escaping past the piston rings from the combustion chamber to the crank case. The heat in the crank case removes the hydrogen from the fuel and makes carbon which darkens the oil. as the engine wears or if you drive with spirit, you get darker oil.

That 8000kms oil looks like normal color to me,after 8k it looks dark because its working.
How long before you change the oil? What do the engine designers and engineers say in the owners manual?

The marketing dept wrote the manual and maintence schedules
All maufactures want to say their cars are more maintenance free then the compitition.

Does anyone seroiusly believe the manufacrures want their engines to last too long?
They want them to last a bit beyound the waranty so you will buy a new car.

Most of the storys about a long lasting engine concerns an owner who changed the oil more frequently than the manual suggested.

There was a time when manufactures recomended you change the oil every 6k miles. It didn't matter how long the engine lasted as the car was junk anyway after about 70k miles.
Now, there is an oil "shortage" issue and they are attempting to look "green" so, they are saying evey 5k miles.

Personally, I change oil whenever it looks and smells dirty
It's my car and I'm paying for it so, I make the decisions.

BTW, I think it's interesting to note that when most changed oil at about 3k miles, engine warenties were higher (better) on the average than they are now with longer oil change intervals becoming the norm.
