Our rules allow us to use what ever gearbox (or combination there of) we like BUT we cannot modify the chassis of the car to accommodate it. The extra length of the C160 therefore makes that swap impossible.

Can you just swap gears from C160 to C150 and keeping the same housing?
The C160 transmission is longer because of the extra 6th gear, well you could use 5 gears instead of 6?

Yep, and a shorter final drive as well and would have been perfect for my needs if it fitted without modification, although I do have concerns that due to where reverse is, that I might accidentally pick reverse instead of first during a down shift into a tight corner, that would be disastrous.

Yea I agree with you. After using the C150 for years, when I switched to the C160 trans I got many times putting 6th instead of reverse but I never hit reverse instead of first. The reverse is far from first and it is not the same horizontal feel shift. Also the 2nd gear is so low that I mainly use it instead of 1st gear when I am in traffic.

No but yes, the C160 lsd will not slot straight into a C150 diff due to the different number of bolts that hold it to the crown wheel. See pic below. You could however take it to someone and have it redrilled to suit and then it may fit. I'll trial it on the weekend for you just to make sure the heights stay correct.

The below diff is not of the C160, it is marked C56 or they are the same?
That depends the cost of redrilling! If so it would be more worth buying an upgraded LSD
