How about something like 5% off any one purchased item as a prize. Then it's just a little bit less profit rather than an out of pocket expense.

Yes, that's much simpler.

So far we have

Malibuguy +4
Tooter +2
Garm -5
Mazilla +1000

Mazilla, make another guess.
That one has really long odds.

Hey Gold... you just covered everyone else's guess.

Pick just one number and one plus or minus sign. ;)

tooter, everyone is picking a number for whp, and a number for torque -- can we keep it in that format, please?

and yes, 5% on one item works for me. I'll make up a coupon for the winner of the pool.

Certainly, Garm.

I just thought that it might be a lot more simple with each guessing just one horsepower number. We can do it any way you want since you're providing the prize.

We could combine the total of how many horsepower and torque numbers each guess is off, and whoever is the least total amount off is the winner.

I got some PICTURES...

Roger and Bill made this beautiful part.
Their business is called:

Origin Designs

http://origindr.com/

The stock gasket drops right in and fits like a dream...

It took some filing to get the runners to fit as they are not all uniform. But the flange is on tight enough to weld. You can see on the inside the edges that need to be feathered out after it's welded up.

Ready to go to the welder...

Oh oh, Garm...

Maybe you already know something that everyone else here doesn't know from having worked on your manifolds for years. It's highly likely that you have the most realistic guess!

Bonus for the CEL?
Oh oh again... maybe you already know about that, too. Have your manifolds triggered CEL's?

Given the long runners, and my limited knowledge of VGIS used in chevy cars.

Im guessing probably ~ +3% torque and a ~ -3% decrease in top hp assuming that vvti doesnt do something funny =P

""VGIS stands for Variable Geometry Intake System. In this system, the length of the intake manifold is varied according to the rpm of the engine. (using a set of flaps that are automatically activated, maybe).

"To provide a smooth power delivery and torque across all engine speeds, the air intake system needs to be narrow and long at low rpm and short and wide at high rpm. Since these are conflicting requirements, most inlet systems are a compromise between low and high rpm performance. Varying the inlet tract gives the best of both worlds and variable intake systems in which the inlet tract length varies depending on the rpm is now increasingly common in many cars.
The Optra 1.6’s Variable Geometry Intake System (VGIS) uses a valve to alter the length of the air intake tract, making it longer when the engine is running low revs and shortening the path of air when the engine is running at higher rpm. This improves throttle response and offers a flatter torque curve and is the main reason for the Optra 1.6’s good driveability.""

^ The Toyota T-VIS on the old 3S-GE. At around 4200 it changes to the short runners and the sound and pull of the motor changes.

The Corolla runners are actually a little shorter and fatter than the stock Yaris manifold...

You can't see the full length of the stock runners without removing the manifold and looking at the bottom, because they wrap almost all the way around the plenum like a snail shell.

The two number idea was based on people's guesses -- it's your show, tooter! I'll play however you want to.

I think the torque number will be equally if not more important than whp, though, so it's fun to guess both.
